How do my gears look?

Hello all. When i bought my truck 5 years ago, i drained the fluid out of my rear axle (sterling 10.25 FF 4:10 gears LS) and refilled it w/ the same stuff my buddy at the time used in his rear end.... 80W90. Works good for him, seeing as he had a D70 FF. Found out in time that i was supposed to have used 75W140, but wtf, if it works it works. About 3 years ago, my pinion nut started coming loose. Asked a guy at the shop i worked at what to do, and he said reef on it w/ impact till it stops spinning. Thats what we do on semi tractors. So i started to do that, but it didnt stop right away like it does on the big trucks. Kept turning slowly. So i stopped. Asked my instructor at school the next day, and he informed me about the crush sleeve and bearing preload. AW CHIT. Oh well, too late now. Well, that was 3 years ago. Finally drained the lube out of it again last weekend, and this is what it looks like on the inside. Surprisingly good, i think. But then again, i really dont know what im looking at. So what do you guys think? And dont worry, i refilled it w/ 75w140 lol

Sorry the pics are fuzzy, my cam is kinda old, and doesnt like to do close ups. So what ya think?

Its hard from the pictures to see the tooth pattern. But I bet you pinion preload is way over what it is supposed to be. I know my 9.75 with used bearings is under 10 in lbs preload.

Yeah, i kinda figure that. But its been 3 years now, knock on wood, and it hasnt given me any problems yet. the fluid was still very clean that i drained out of it, no metal flakes or anything like that.

If its been 3 years since you used an impact wrench on it, you are very lucky and should probably leave it alone.

As long as the pinion bearings are tight the ring and pinion will be fine.

Consider yourself VERY lucky and let it be.
