Remote Starter HI-Jinks

SO, the wife & I were sitting in the house last night & heard a truck pull into our driveway, or so we thought... Turns out my 06 6.0L had started itself and was sitting running...

I had not armed the remote start function, & did not press the start button on the remote. The alarm was armed as well.

I went out & checked it out, & shut it down.

SO... I have a Polar Start system in the truck that came with it when I bought it. Is phantom starting common? Should I be looking at fixing it? Removing it? I certainly do not like the idea of it randomly starting up on its own.

What do you guys think?

Not sure on yours.

but mine will start if the cabin reaches a certain degrees inside.

it can be set, for like 105 in the summer
and 32 in the winter.

also mine “aftermarket” can just roll the windows down if it reaches a certain temp....

And or it detects the battery has reached a certain point of dischrge
best of luck

Interesting. I did not know about the temp controlled options. I'm pretty sure mine does not have that tho. Also, it was about 4C here last night.

Batteries are only 3 months old, & I drove the truck yesterday, so doubt low battery as well.

I will just have to keep researching...

Thanks.

Nice... I didn't notice any visitors next door, so...

It amazes me the gremlins that can work themselves into modern electronics. This stuff is supposed to make things better, right?

My buddy had the same thing with his 6.0. I stopped in to watch a game, his truck was running and he didn't seem to have any intention to go anywhere. I finally asked why the truck was running? He laughed and called BS. Turned out he was doing a load of laundry and accidentally had left the remote in his pants. Google your remote start and look at the FAQ or the trouble shooting section.

I was leaving work one night after a very long shift, hit the button on my cheapo remote starter and not only did my car start but another one not too far from where mine was parked did too. It can happen.
Good luck with your gremlins.

Same deal here - was out to dinner with a bunch of friends, walked out into the parking lot, lock lock start and tie yye yie vroom the truck fired up and so did a jeep in the parking lot. How a Ford remote start started a jeep, I have no clue.
Went back into the restaurant - the dude didn't believe me.

The same remote start fob Ford used on their long distance bi-directional setup is the same fob used by Subaru. As long as the FCC-ID matches, it is possible to start another vehicle if the programming is the same.

Now I know why I've never really trusted remote start systems...

I've been looking through manual etc, & accidentally discovered what likely happened yesterday after work. I had not set the truck for remote start, my system uses a series of actions to arm remote start. As I was leaving I went to unlock the doors, & hit the wrong button... Even though not armed, the remote start fired the truck up.

Seems like I likely hit the button by accident the other night as well. Looks like I will have to be more careful of the remote while it is in my pocket...

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

The IKT remote start fob key takes more than one mere push. You have to follow a sequence to start the truck. As you know, you have to press Lock and then Start twice. It would be very high odds of this sequence happening my accident while IKT fob is in your pocket.

Even the bi-directional fobs with only one button and where you press the start button twice to remote start require more than a "slight" pressing of the start button twice.
