factory remote starter

2014 fx4 full load, purchased new in sept 2014, has anyone had issues with the range/distance with the remote starter? Most times I have to be within 20/30 yards to activate it and if im inside my home or any building its useless and rarely activates it regardless of the distance. My point is a remote start is made to start your vehicle from a reasonable distance without having to step outside to activate it.

You might need to replace the battery. Max distance for mine is usually only 20/30 yards too. Not real good - but I still can point at my truck at work inside and it's warm when I get in it.

I also thought perhaps it was the battery so I tried my spare key and it works the same. I'm curious if they are all the same? 20/30 yards doesn't seem like much range? I had an after market remote starter installed in my 06 150 and it was good for at least 1/4 mile

Range is useless with these. Mine won't start from a second floor window with the truck parked directly out in front of the building. never has, never will.

This is a common complaint with factory remote star from several brands. I have heard rumors that the 2-way starter from Ford is better, but I personally doubt it'll be as good as the top-line aftermarket ones.
The Compustar I put in my wife's van advertises 1 mile range. I suspect in real world situations it's much less than that, but I haven't found a reasonable distance that it doesn't work at.

Thanks for the info, I guess there's no need to go to the dealer ? I just wish it would start from inside the house which is apprx 15yards away.

In my 08 F150 I had a Bully Dog remote start. I worked on the 28th floor of the Sears tower and parked my Truck in a garage a block away. I could start the Truck from my office. On my 2012 I can't remote start the truck from inside my house. I have to open the front door or go by a window. I would guess the range is 30 feet.

Same here, range is about 20-30 yards, I can start mine from inside the house, but I have to be close, at work, I have to go to the fence and have direct line of sight, my wife's ford accessory installed remote start has much more range.

The factory one sucks for range, I have 1 mile range 2-way vipers on my other trucks and I really miss that if i'm not home or at work, since both of those places i'm close enough for it to work. Really debating having a 2-way aftermarket system put in or doing the ford remote access system so i can use it through my phone.
