Winter is here and our road is slick. One of the neighbors new to the "hood" crashed on the way up last night, wiped out a power pole, so no power from 2200-0355. House was a little cold! Totaled their truck but no one was hurt thankfully. The road up can be icy all day long since parts of it never see the sun. Be careful out there.
Hi Rich. Heard the single vehicle MVA come across the scanner last night.
My sister used to live off of Peavine, clear down Eagle Point Way and at the end of Vine Maple. If one was smart, they would carry a shovel and a bucket of sand along with a chain saw in the winter time up there.
I have a Harmon Pellet Stove that can run for a while off of battery backup, UPS just like a computer, but I' haven't bought one and never hooked that up. I have two jump packs here that also have 120 inverters on them that will run the stove for about 40 minutes. If I hook them up to the 12 volt back up system the stove should run about 4 hours on each pack. Problem is that I have to pull the insert out of the fireplace to get to the circuits. Time difference is because of the fans. Using the 120 inverter, it runs the stove in a normal mode with an intake fan two distribution fans and the exhaust fan. Hooked into the backup circuits it works more like a radiant heater with all but the exhaust fan disabled.
I also have a generator and can run an extension cord in to run the stove. I also have two Mr. Heater Big Buddy propane heaters that are UL approved for indoor use. Just one of those in the living room keeps it acceptably warm.
Good luck with Jury duty. July, November and December are very rotten months to pull that duty.
We have a generator panel and I have a little 2200w that could power a few things. I hear from the long time neighbors power outages were common until the new substation at between Old Sheridan Rd and the hwy went in. All of our power is underground along Eagle Point but it's all on poles on Peavine. Wasn't a big deal since we were warm in bed. Got up and fired up the heat pump and stove to quickly warm the house back up. I hadn't heard of a battery back up on the pellet stove before but it's not a bad idea. I thought maybe the stove would reset itself and fire back up once the power came back but that wasn't the case. I had to reset it via the thermostat.
Yes looks like we are not going anywhere this month. I do need to skip out on the the last day of the month since we are supposed to be in Bend. I don't want to have to put if off and kinda hope a get a trial quickly then I'm done! haha.

Good luck with your jury duty Rich. They last wanted me for jury duty right in the middle of when we had a Diamond Lake Trip planned. They were a little on the 'not nice' side when we told them we had reservations that had be made for months. They finally swapped me a couple of weeks, then they threw another retired type and myself out because we had both worked with officers that were on the case being tried. I do not look forward to my next (if there is one) call for jury duty.
She had power problems up there in the winter, but not as dramatic as she made it out to be. Apparently there is a junction box 'in the valley'. Mac Power ends at this box and PGE goes on from there. There is switch or circuit breaker in that box that used to trip at the slightest hiccup. Everyone beyond would be without power until PGE got up there to reset it. Mac Power and Light wouldn't touch the switch in the box because it wasn't theirs.
The last couple of years they were up there I only recall a couple of the 0200 "can we borrow your generator" calls. I always told them they could wait until morning because they had a standard wood stove that didn't need electricity.
We haven't had a power outage last more than a couple of hours since December 2007. That storm took the power out for almost a week.
No jury duty for me this week. Yes they are rather sticklers about missing days. I need to drop off my requested days off sometime today.
Jim, that would be the substation they replace a while back. Next year I hope to get the companion for the 2200 so that would give me 4400 watts which would be enough to run the fridge and such. No water for the well but with the cistern we'd be good for a few days.
Haven't had any power outages of consequence here in quite some time. I worry more about outages at the farm. Seems like a tree limb falls on a power line with the slightest breeze. On more than one occasion in recent history it has taken more than a couple of days to get their power back on. Mother is 91 1/2 years young, so I have to make sure we have the power covered.
