My truck didn't come from the factory with remote start, essentially the only thing I had wanted but didn't get. My dealer told me he could add an OEM remote start for around $500, but it would add a SEPARATE REMOTE to my keychain. I hate having extra button or fobs, and I did not want the subscription based cell-phone start option. The 12volt.solutions kit seemed like the best option - uses my existing factory keyfob and it is simply plug and play. I bought it and rented the programmer and it installed in under 5 minutes including reprogramming the cluster. I've actually been happy with the range. I used to have a automate remote start/security package on my old truck and I've found the 12Volt.solutions (and my factory keyfob) to have the same range. The farthest I ever start my truck is about 500' line of site and it starts 99% of the time. Even my auto-mate occasionally had trouble with that one. For the price range I have not found a simpler solution that uses the existing keyfob and functions as a factory system would.
Consider yourself lucky then. When I had their system installed, the truck would NOT start more than 50% of the time. It didn't matter how quickly I clicked 3 times or how slowly I clicked 3 times. Close or far. The truck would annoyingly honk, and not do anything. And good luck getting 500' every time. That's just not going to happen with the factory remote very often.
When the truck would start, it often took 6-10 seconds to start. I literally had to stand outside and watch my truck for 10 seconds, just to see if it would actually start? That's pointless.
I also had issues with my truck randomly shutting off, after successfully remotely starting. This would happen about 25% of the time.
Having the same key fob is nice, I agree. But I finally got my factory bi-directional system working yesterday, and this system is far superior. The range is FAR greater. It takes ONE click from the fob. The truck starts IMMEDIATELY. The fob lights up and beeps at me to confirm it indeed started. And, the truck actually follows the computer and heats/cools accordingly.
All this for about $50 more than 12 Volt Solutions? I'll take it.

If my system ever fails I would consider this, but I just hate the idea of the extra fob so much. I like minimal things on my keyring. And the kit I have does heat or cool the truck accordingly based on outside temp, including heated seats- which is fantastic, I agree. Ah well! Win some lose some and for now I think I'm winning...will keep updated though if anything goes wrong.
Is 6-10 seconds really going to make the difference on anything lol? I've had factory remote start in the past, and would've liked factory on this. I also like the green or red light confirmation that it started on the keyfob from factory. To each their own tho. I wouldn't discourage anyone from trying their system tho. Did you reach out to them with your issues and did they respond??
The problem with 6-10 seconds is the fact you are unsure if the truck is going to start or not. Clicking 3 times, waiting 10 seconds, clicking again because it didn't start, waiting another 10 seconds...and I've already walked to my truck. Or I'm wasting time in the morning not getting ready because I'm checking if my truck has started or not. You get the point.
Anyway, 12 Volt DOES have great customer service. I did reach out to them, they did not have an answer to my problems, so are processing a return.

I'm with you on that. I really don't want the extra fob either. This weekend I hope to install the Fortin unit. They are highly recommended and have a large professional install base. I will report back after I do the install.

So far I am happy with their customer service. Easily accessible. The plug and play kit is inexpensive. Any chance you could reset the box and reprogram it? It could be a faulty box...it's not unheard of. They use Directed Electronics (essentially same company as Viper Alarms) so their equipment is fairly reliable and straight forward. I am excited to get mine in the mail. My vehicle qualified for their instructional video program so I'll get a refund of 50% after making a simple instructional video. I'll report back on complexity and ease of use. I plan to use it to warm the car up for 5 minutes in the morning to help start the defogging process and get the heated seats warmed up.
I suppose its time to chime in. Traffic from this site has been ridiculous over the past week! First of all, I appreciate the props on the customer service NorEasterMA. I hate that we experienced issues with the product on your truck, and like I tell everyone.. we will never stick someone with a product they aren't happy with. I also appreciate your honest opinion. Although electronics can fail and have bugs, we will go the extra mile to resolve the situation.
We spend a good amount of time coming up with a solution for the Super Duty trucks. There was an early issue with the diesel engine/8" screen combo and our first remote start version. There was too much data collision and things didn't operate consistently. We trashed that design and module and started from scratch. Although things happens, and sometimes product doesn't work like its supposed to, we have over 700 of these kits out in the world as of the last day in October.
For people that want a longer range without the addition of another key FOB, we offer the smart start module. It works great, but DEI's yearly subscription is much higher than the Ford unit. I hate the DEI charges so much, but thats just how it is.
I'm not here to sell or promote anything... it appears other forum members are doing that already I'm simply here to answer any questions you guys might have. The traffic number from this site to our site peaked my curiosity.. so here I am!
