Howdy all...just brought my new 2017 F250 home. It has almost everything I wanted on it except for remote start and clearance lights. The dealer gave me a loose estimate of around $500 to add remote start and I found this kit for $229. Wondering if anyone knows anything good or bad about it.
I'd go this way: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2017-Super-...5YJecw&vxp=mtr
I installed a kit in the 2016 I had. But also went with the module so that I could start it from anywhere with Ford's app. But there is a yearly subscription charge for that.
Mine came from Banner Ford in Louisiana. They were very helpful activating the remote lock portion. But I had to see my dealer and pay $40 to hook up to their IDS to turn the remote start function on. Had them turn on daytime running lights while they were at it. That charge will vary widely from dealer to dealer.
You could get part numbers for your truck from here and then get in touch with Banner. https://accessories.ford.com/electro...ote-start.html
One question asked but not answered in the YouTube video is about the range of the 12 Volt Solutions product. I would guess it's limited to the factory fob range.
Nice truck! Looks like our trucks could be twins. Here is some info with another option plus I think there may be some info about the kit you posted......
Thanks for the link...looks like the 12V solution works and a possible cheaper way to get the OEM equipment. I don't want the cell phone option because I'm often not in a cell phone coverage area.

I've got the same color truck as you, just not an FX4. It's got cab lights but no remote start. In the past I've had Ford's cell phone option as well as a couple of Viper SmartStart. I haven't decided if I'm going to even bother with remote this time around.
Give a post if you find out anything about the range from 12 Volt Solutions.
I went with 12 volt solutions and am very pleased with it. Any issues and they resolve them immediately. I put mine on about a week after buying the truck and its worked flawlessly. I highly recommend them.
I went with the 12 Volt solutions and I was NOT pleased with it. Yes, it uses the factory FOB, which is nice, but I found the reliability and range of the system to be dissapointing.
I ended up installing the factory OEM security module + antenna kit, for about $275 installed. Yes, it is more expensive than 12.volt, but it just simply works better, uses the cluster settings, has a greater range, and has the security system to boot.
Thanks for the info...I would like a decent range. Like being able to start the truck from a hotel room or lobby. Otherwise it's only about 20 feet from a window when at home.
I went with 12 volt and was very pleased. The range is however far your factory remote reaches to lock and unlock your doors. They offer a programmer rental for like $50 plus a deposit (refundable when you return the programmer in good condition in under 2 weeks) to program the instrument cluster to have all the remote start settings. They also offer a first responder/military/leo discount. It sometimes takes 10 seconds or so to start, but it starts every time for me. If you are using the remote start, 10 seconds usually makes no difference in the long run.

There are reports of poor range. We all like a bargain. But personally, if I'm spending over $50k for a truck, the $300 neighborhood is fine by me for factory remote start stuff.

Read that post in it's entirety and most of your questions should be answered.
Do not pay a dealer $500. You can purchase the parts for the OEM remote start for less than $250, and installation is super easy. All you need is a computer and the FORScan stuff is easy too.
I was also disappointed by the 12.volt Solutions. Return that junk and buy OEM.

The only thing you can get factory for the ballpark of $300 is the phone remote start kit if you have it dealer installed AFTER the purchase. There is no keyfob starting with that setup. The start won't work if you have no service from my understanding, and there is a yearly subscription. And as pointed out above, if you use a dealer to activate with IDS then they likely will charge for that too....
The 12 volt solutions one operates the same as your factory ordered remote start does (with the possibility of having a slight delay of 10 seconds or so to start sometimes).

This is not true. The phone remote start is entirely optional. You can do the factory OEM remote start utilizing the SEPARATE key fob for $200-250, depending if you want bi directional or not.

I stated dealer installed in there....you may have saw my post before I edited it tho.
I do agree you can get the parts and do it yourself if you want to use forscan. Me personally, I don't have a windows computer and don't even want a cheap one bc they are such pieces of crap. My Mac laptop is darn near full on memory due to video editing, so I don't have the free space to partition part of it for bootcamp. For people like me, 12 volt solutions was a great option over buying a computer or paying the dealer, both of which would have upped the price.
I just ordered one of these devices. I should receive it some time early next week. I will keep you posted on my experience. I spoke with the owner and he was very cordial. Seems like a worthwhile solution for those folks who don't have this feature on their vehicle. I ordered this for my Lexus (not for the Ford) but I imagine the experience is generally the same.
My truck didn't come from the factory with remote start, essentially the only thing I had wanted but didn't get. My dealer told me he could add an OEM remote start for around $500, but it would add a SEPARATE REMOTE to my keychain. I hate having extra button or fobs, and I did not want the subscription based cell-phone start option. The 12volt.solutions kit seemed like the best option - uses my existing factory keyfob and it is simply plug and play. I bought it and rented the programmer and it installed in under 5 minutes including reprogramming the cluster. I've actually been happy with the range. I used to have a automate remote start/security package on my old truck and I've found the 12Volt.solutions (and my factory keyfob) to have the same range. The farthest I ever start my truck is about 500' line of site and it starts 99% of the time. Even my auto-mate occasionally had trouble with that one. For the price range I have not found a simpler solution that uses the existing keyfob and functions as a factory system would.
