I was picking up a Uhaul the other day and a guy with a 16 F150 2.7 was going nuts about my sideless seat covers with the Ford logo embroidered into them. Then he shows me what appears to be a factory remote just like mine and tells me he has added a remote start "you just plug it in under the dash". My Uhaul came up and I had to go without getting the details. Anybody know anything about this. He indicated it was very inexpensive (cheap) and he did it himself......
Thanks in advance! Oh yeah, I have a 16 Screw 2.7 ecoboost xlt, pretty basic.
I just installed the kit from 12voltsolutions on my 17 XLT . Easy 5 min install and 3 pushes of the lock button will start truck and turn on parking lights. Also enables remote start menu..... $125
Thanks folks! That must be the one he was talking about. Said he plugged it in under the dash and it worked with the factory remote. What if I have the small screen in the dash instead of the fancier one? Does it effect the use of this device?

mine is an XLT with the 301A package, smaller screen....no issues, full function.
I purchased the VSS and RMU from Banner and it gave me remote start using my smart phone and shock sensors added to perimeter - this was simply a 2016 f150 RCLB with 102 package... ALL of this is Ford OE... I would question an aftermarket... how does it bypass the PATS if not OE... and the way it does it... might it make your system a little less secure... think about it...
no problemo man.. it's your truck... foir everyone else... consider this...
Buy a blank key from the dealer... then use it to start your truck. The PATS will stop it. since it's not programed. And that's OE... an aftermarket has to find a way to bypass all of those layers of protection that keeps somebody else from starting your ride. How does it do it. I really don't know. I do know that Ford OE remote start plays nice with Ford OE modules in the truck.
How much did you pay for your truck... I had to pay for mine and want to take care of it. You do whatever you want with yours...
I bought a eBay remote start for my Ram. Used the factory remote and plugged in a little box under dash. 5 minute install and then click the lock button 3 times to start. Worked pretty good. I have the Ford factory remote now. Has better range. I would GUESS that the option can be turned on with something like ForScan and then purchase the upgraded remote. I reserve the right to be wrong.

Hopefully your future posts will be less condescending and based more on fact than your paranoid theories.
I am very open to different views, but don't imply that I didn't pay for my truck or don't care about my truck because of an aftermarket remote starter???? I doubt you were even born when I bought my first truck and people that know me are laughing hysterically at your last statement.
I'm very happy you have the Ford remote start and all the goodies that go with it. Different strokes........
Ford does have a factory remote and one that's sold by "dealers"... and I am talking about the latter... and consider it a better option for those who do not have the factory one. You get enhanced perimeter alarm (that you can choose to turn off/on)... and you can get a one-direction, bi-direction and use a smart phone.
I looked at those and the aftermarkets... and consider Ford OE a better choice. At the very least it's compatible with the underlying security that fords have and the aftermarkets do not provide any info to explain how they do the same...
Why take the chance when there are dealers that sell the OE at a competitive price.
We each can choose whatever we want. I gave my opinion with an explanation... and it was taken as some kind of insult. The funny part about it is that I do not have skin in the game over what another chooses to do.
I have no need to validate my choices by having others make the same... of trying to "force" them to do the same. And to the person who thinks I was condescending... not my intention. I have learned that what you put into something... does not always match what another gets out of it... simply because they add/remove something else.
You can go your way. I go mine. And let everyone else choose for themselves. No harm. No foul.
