So my truck has had the same windshield on it now for 115,000 miles. Its got a 18 or so inch crack right in the drivers line of sight and around 10 small chips. Its time for me to get a new windshield. I went straight to Safelite and was quoted $409.00 for a new windshield with the super duty logo. Without the logo was about $300.00. I believe that if I get it with the logo than that means I'm getting oem carlite glass? If I don't get it with the logo, is it still gem glass? Also, compared to the price I've seen others get for the windshield with the logo, 400 bucks seems a little expensive. Ive read about people getting new oem glass for 175-250. I'd like to hear yalls opinions on the price and hope someone here knows what exactly I'm paying for, whether it be oem or aftermarket. Im in the Houston area if that helps.
Who ever you have do it make them put it in writing on the repair order that your getting Genuine OEM glass. The after market glass can be thinner and not nearly as good. The last windshield that I had replaced there was app. a hundred bucks difference between OEM and AM.
Call the local mom & pop shop or even the guy who advertises on craigslist. Ask him for the price for a windshield for the truck. Then ask him for the price for the Carlite glass with the super duty logo on it. Those guys aren't following the company line so they have no reason to lie to you, and likely no way to get super duty glass that's not carlite. You can also stop in and talk to a local mechanic and ask for a recommendation for a company that does glass replacement. They will likely know someone.
I hesitate to ask, but what does dealership offer? 400 seems high. Mine does have soundscreen printed on it as well as logo. Wonder how much of a difference this makes?

I haven't even considered a dealer doing it. Im sure its some crazy ridiculous price plus any of the dealers around me will turn it into an all day job.
Make sure your new windshield has the Soundscreen Acoustic glass built into it. You will hate the noise from any other windshield. It comes in both Logo and No Logo
There is a logo ( I can't remember where I think very low corner ) that says Soundscreen
I get a new windshield about once a year. my glass guy bills my insurance and charges me $50 ( I have a $100 deductible) so he is waiving half of that.
I've gotten windshields with both Logo and No Logo. Personally, I think the no Logo windshield chip and crack faster than the Logo'd windshield. So that may be a sign of an inferior product.
