Has anyone had a replacement? I remember having one replaced many years ago and the new ones were not the same, no "Ford" logo at the top. Anyway, the reason i ask is my windshield iced over and i used the flat end of a flashlight to scrape it, thinking it was hard to scratch glass, not the case, my cheap flashlight tore it up pretty good. I live in S. Texas, when we get ice we all get confused anyway and I didnt have a scraper. now my windshield is a little ugly.

The last time I had a windshield replaced by SafeLite I had the option of getting OEM or non-Ford glass. Since I had no deductible I opted for the Ford brand. Was identically marked as the original.
Definitely go for original quality and all markings in lisping visor and shaded areas. Cheaper is definately not good, especially if your insurance covers it, make sure you get the good stuff.
I don't know if this is the case on all trim levels, but my Platinum has acoustic laminated windshield glass. Any Safelite product will not have this feature. I believe that the OEM glass is sourced from Carlex. It will have the word "SoundScreen" at the bottom of the windshield.
Ford does not manufacture glass, carlite makes all the glass for them. I am actually waiting to get my hands on one but from what I have been told there are two versions of the carlite glass.
1. The oem ford glass, provided by carlite to factory. with all markings and logos as delivered on your vehicle from the factory.
2. the carlite replacement, all markings and supposedly construction as the oem unit without the small ford oval logo in the lower center of the glass right above where it says carlite.
3. all other versions are aftermarket reproductions.
mine is getting replaed after a spontanious crack...but im low on the totem pole as its getting done for free by a friends auto glass company.
I just had mine replaced a few weeks ago. I insisted they put in the original spec window with ford on it. My insurance company wants me (us) to go through safelight but if you ask you usually can have a local shop do it and use factory glass. Didn't cost me anymore either.
I agree that these windows seem the weakest I've ever had.
Update, I used a variety of chemicals and cleaning pads trying to remove the scratches or marks on the windshield and oddly enough the one thing that worked was my DA polisher and a very light pre wax polish. The windsheild looks new again. Weird but true.
Replaced the brow on my replaced windshield.
Went a little bigger and darker this time.
Seems like OEM top shaded windshields are now a thing of the past.
