I have a 2000 expedition with the 4r100. Certified transmission put a remanufactured trans in it last year. I added a trans cooler today and was going to add some fluid but wasnt sure if I needed to add mercon or mercon V. The dipstick says mercon, so I called certified transmission and they said the put peak full synthetic multi vehicle atf in it and just to use that. I looked up the peak full synthetic and it said not for use where mercon V is required. Guess im stuck using that now?
MERCON is the old spec and normally not available in stores. MERCON V is the new spec and almost ALL vehicles upgrade to the new spec. "GENERIC" fluids that do not meet the MERCON V spec are not recommended.
looking up the PEAK fluid, it appears it is for the Newer FORD 6 speed transmissions and GM Dextron IV vehicles.. Not saying it wont work in the older FORD trans, but not recommended.
Maybe they know what they are doing. But I would NEVER put that fluid in a 4R100. The only Ford spec that it lists is MERCON SP. MERCON SP will kill a 4R100. Source: PEAK ATF Spec Sheet.

What did the remanufacturer put it when they put it in the expedition?
Is might be still under warranty.
I bought a certified 4r70w last fall, they put peak full synthetic, about 20k miles no problem.
I called certified transmission and asked about the peak synthetic and it not being compatible with mercon or mercon V applications. They said the 4r100 was on their list of approved applications. When I looked up the specs again I noticed the application list from 2013 didnt list mercon or mercon V but the list from 2016 lists Mercon but specifically says not for mercon V.
MERCON is NOT available.. The "NEW" is Mercon V.... If MERCON V will not work, then either will MERCON.......... other versions of FORD spec fluid are MERCON LV and SP... they are NOT MERCON V replacements.
