Transmission problems

I have a 2006 6.0. It's hard to put into to drive and for you to get it moving you have to just about floor it. The tow haul light is flashing but my bullydog won't pull the codes. It stops moving after like 30 to 40 ft after you got it moving and acts like it's in natural. If you turn it off and back on it sometimes will move another 30 to 40 ft sometimes. It also sometimes if you put it in reverse won't let you give it gas. Like you can push the pedal but the rpms won't climb for this reason I'm thinking something to with a solenoid or fuse or something along those lines and also because if you restart it will move again. I don't know much about transmission. I'm taking it to a shop tomorrow for them to try and read the codes. If they say the transmission is toast i already located another one 2 hours away to swap in which I'll do myself to avoid the high cost of the shop which also I'll look to yall for guidance. I drained some of the transmission fluid and didn't see any metal flakes. Should I pull the pan as well and look if nothing is coming out in the trans fluid ?

The transmission is toast. If you just about floor it to get it moving you're slipping the clutches. If you do that for more than 2-3 seconds you destroy the clutches. It may have been something simple, but now it needs a new transmission.

Yes Sr. I should have consultanted a expert such as your self as I'm sitting on the side of a 2 lane hwy with cars flying by trying to figure out what's wrong with my truck and limp it to the gas station. I'm bring it tomorrow to get codes read and if it doesn't pull any codes I'll just switch the transmission out since I'm getting one with 100,000 miles for $400. Then I'll pull the old transmission apart and take pictures and inspect it and post them for y'all to tell me what's burnt up.

I would make sure the cooler lines are clean and put a new filter on. There probably won't be flakes but a sludge of molten clutch material.

The transmission in my '06 Hurricane motorhome did a similar thing with only 29k miles on it. When we removed and disassembled it we found the low/reverse clutch pack retaining snap ring popped out of its groove in the case. the clutches were loose and could not be compressed with the piston. We bought the upgraded snap ring and replaced clutches on all gears and put it back together. All is good now.
