Just installed a BakFlip MX4 and love it. Problem is the bed is now completely dark at night unless I open the cover which leads to the next mod, cargo lights.
Has anyone attempted to install factory cargo lights? I know for the F-150 Ford actually offers an accessory; F-150 Cargo Light Kit p/n FL3Z-13E7545-A which consists of 2 lights, switch, and a couple harnesses. Installation requires removing and replacing the tail light harness with the harness in the kit. It also requires IDS or FORScan for activation.
The lights & switch are the same p/n for the 2017 SuperDuty trucks. I have not been able to verify the harness is the same. I am assuming the SuperDuty harness is probably different from the F-150 and thats why the kits are not compatible but I'm having trouble locating a p/n for the correct harness.
I've been trying to figure this out as well. I thought about just buying the F150 kit and seeing what happens, just have had too many other expenditures to worry about.
I have an email in to Tasca on this project. I also plan to tie this in with the XLT tailgate LED mod another member on this forum successfully installed. Since the harnesses are connected for either mod, I want to get this right the first time.
I will post back my findings when I get it figured out.
If it's any help, I installed a factory cargo light in my 2016 F150 that didn't originally come with one. The factory wire harness was already under the bed on the trucks that came with the electronic package. The included instructions was fairly easy to follow. I don't how that would work on a Super Duty.
I made my own kit and tied them into the #1 upfitter switch due to a kit not being available for the F250.
I purchased two LED cargo lights (OEM), matched the connector (WPT1116 connector from Ford
) and built my own harness to connect them and up to the engine bay.
Works like a champ but will replace eventually when the kit is available...would like the switch in the bed. Could have prob figured out how to make the switch work but got a bit impatient. I have been told the wiring is different from the F150s and that kit will not work.
It's taken over a month of research, ordering, waiting, and unfortunately returning a wrong part, but it looks like all of the correct parts and harnesses are finally here!
The two LED fixtures and switch were the easy ones to figure out. There are two riser harnesses that were also easy. But the body harness was not so easy. There are numerous variants of that harness depending on truck configuration. The first attempt resulted in the wrong harness but the second harness looks good, has all the right connectors including one I've never seen before.
I'll be installing tomorrow if the weather holds out. With luck everything will work and I'll be back tomorrow with plenty of pics when complete.
The part numbers ordered for this project:
FL3Z-13A756-A (x2) LED Fixture
FL3Z-9C888-B Switch
HC3Z-13K371-A Wire Harness (Driver's Side)
HC3Z-13K371-B Wire Harness (Passenger Side)
HC3Z-13A409-C Body Wire Harness
I'll post up pictures of the parts tomorrow morning.
