We're purchasing a 67 F100 for a project truck. We have found some discrepancies with the VIN and what the current owner is telling us about the history of the truck. He says the truck mostly original ( he thinks the only thing that has been changed is the back window of the cab). Our biggest concern is that the VIN says the truck came with the 6cyl but the truck clearly has a V8 in it right now. The VIN also indicated that the truck was Wimbledon White. The truck is currently 2toned red and white.
We're actually happy that there is V8 as opposed to the 6cyl and doesn't take away from the value for us because we're not set on having a numbers matching. I'm mostly asking because the guy we're buying from is a friend and he's sure the motor in the truck is original and I just feel like I need to ask the experts here if we're missing something. We'd also like to know just for our own curiosity about the paint, if the truck has ever been painted.
We have checked and the vin on the door matched the vin on the frame. We're open to any advice or speculations anyone may have about what's going on here.
I've included a pic of the door tag that we used to decode on fordification.com
Possibly the drivers door was replaced and if so, would explain why the tag doesn't match what's sitting under the hood or the body color.
The only two other places you'll find the VIN on the truck are on the right side, top of the frame. Less likely the frame has been replaced, compared to the door.
The VIN matches the frame and an old copy of the registration that we found in the glove box. We haven't pulled number off the engine to see exactly what it is yet. We're getting it cheap enough that we aren't worried if we cant use or don't like what's in it now.
I guess I need to wait until we can get it home and start to break it down before I can get more info.
The horsepower not matching is interesting does anyone else know why that might be?
What also confuses me is it states 129 horsepower.
Even the 240 that vin came with that had 150 horsepower according to everything I read on G**gle.
Sob, boo hoo, ma ma, oh woe is me, I'm soooo confused...
There's nothing to be confused about, kiddo! 129 is the net HP .. 150 is the gross HP
To hell with Google, anyone that has decoded a few Warranty Plates, knows that...
Only the net HP & RPM figures are listed.
If this Warranty Plate hadn't been painted, you would see on the 3rd line: MAX GWV LBS - CERT NET HP - RPM - DSO
