I am buying a 68 F100 and need to know where to find the vin number. The truck is in a million pieces. The owner has three 68's and doesn't know which title matches the truck I want to buy. The other two trucks are not close by so we can't go by process of elimination. Also, the doors on the truck I'm buying are doner doors from another truck so cant use the door tag. Can somebody tell me where else the vin will be stamped? Also, where can I order a new door tag to match the title (once we figure out which one it is).
The VIN is usually stamped on the passenger side frame rail. I have seen it up close to the radiator and as far back as underneath the cab. Take some carb cleaner and a rag with you to wipe off the area. As for replacement VIN tags, you are going to be out of luck on anything that old. Manufacturers will supply replacement door tags but they only go back about 5 to 10 years.
Thanks for the info. I'll go look at the frame rail tomorrow. I won't have to worry about cleaning it first, this is a 'frame-off' restoration job.
Thanks

The vin is stamped into the top of the passenger side frame rail running lengthwise, about where the front axle passes under, and again under the cab. Sometimes they can be a little hard to dig out of the crud but it is there. Garonteee!
