Hey Guys! I am playing the game trying to get my 57 back on the road after resting in Texas since 94... While going through the vehicle inspection, DMV noticed the vin tag on the driver door jam was missing and is now have to visit CHP for a new replacement (flagged). Before I go in for, are there any other locations I am missing where the cab vin tag should be located on a 57?
1. Passenger frame rail
2. Driver door B pillar next to latch (vin missing, rivot holes showing)
3. Glovebox sticker?? (painted over unfortunately)
4. ?
I can see where the vin sticker is on the glovebox door however it has two coats of paint. Do you happen to have an example of what the sticker should look like so I can carefully scrape the area where the vin is?
photograph it first, then try water, see if it will bubble up with water, I would put a wet wash cloth on it for about 10-15 minutes to see if it will soften or loosen
Looks like I'm SOL! Tag on the glovebox is the recommended engine sticker. Not seeing any rivet holes or potential fill holes outside of the driver B pillar. Thanks again guys. I appreciate the extra support on this.
I have a really early production 57 and the tag is located on the passenger side b pillar by the door latch striker plate, might try there?
Hmmm, my '57 also has the tag on passenger B pillar.
I was wondering what constitutes "early production?" My production sequence # is 30564, and while I was poking around he Internet to try and answer my own question, I found this interesting site for fridges;
How cool is that! To be honest with you, it looks like the cab was resprayed 20+ years ago and the vin plate was pulled from the only visible location (Driver door jam near striker, not hinge).
Why there are no rivet provisions inside the glovebox, Driver A Pillar, or passenger sill… Still no clue :-/
