Child safety locks

What is the point of the truck having them if you can't set the rear doors to unlock when you physically pull on the rear door handles from inside the truck? I've taken my truck to two different dealerships and both techs told me that is just how they are.

The purpose of having child safety locks is to prevent the inside handles from working in either locking position so a child does not open the door at a bad time.

There is a little safety lock on off for this in the edge of the door where the latch connects. You can turn it off or on. Child locks on for purposes above, to prevent a child opening the door while moving or backing. The door still opens from the outside so in an emergency occupants can be removed.

He's asking why are they advertised as selectable, if they are not. I think.

I really wish more people would when they get a new vehicle. Child locks have worked the same on every vehicle on the road for over 25 years.

There's a spot that you use a key to turn them on and off isn't there?

Yes. Here's a pic of crew cab's left-side rear passenger door CSL selector location; the CSL is unlocked and the inside door handle is functional:

Sorry, I've been working and moving to another city so I couldn't reply until now.

I get that, but the door will not unlock when pulling the interior handle no matter if the child safety lock is turned on or off. I have to hit the unlock button from the driverside front door for the interior rear doorhandle to work. This seems to be a safety issue for the rear passengers as well as being an annoyance for me.

Correct.

I did read the manual when I got my new truck so don't be an ***. The manual was vague and I didn't get a descriptive answer from the service centers so I was asking here.

Previous trucks you were able to turn auto lock off. Put truck in park, do the doors not unlock then? If they do, without child locks on kid could jump out before you get a chance to get over there and do a runner in to traffic

I turned autolock and auto-unlock off in hopes of it fixing my problem. The rear doors still do not work from the inside unless you hit the unlock button from the driver side door. This goes for both when the child locks are turned on and turned off. I made another appointment with a third service center for tomorrow and took the day off to hopefully fix this problem.

Yep, as long as the doors won't open from the inside, "they" are going to argue there's no problem. At least, until you walk them through the manual about 45 times. Even then, you better set aside some more vacation time.

Be glad you don't have a Chevy. You have to hit the lock button or lever on my work 07 DuraMax before even the DRIVER'S door will open.

The thinking is if you dont want the child to open the door you dont want the child to unlock the door. So yeah thats how they work.

I've owned many GM vehicles, I've never seen a single one like this. Normally, if the drivers door is locked pulling the lever will unlock it and all the other doors if equipped with power door locks. I feel the original poster pain, it took me awhile to get used to the Ford locks. I wish they operated the same as the GM locks.
