To be honest I don't use BLIS at all. The mirror coverage is exceptional in these truck. The cross traffic alert is about 50% accurate. Goes off a lot when backing into a space or up to my garage.
Yes I do, any other info would greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chuck
Ok, so do you have Halogen headlights/tail lights? The only reason I added the BLIS was because I did a halogen to LED upgrade and the LED's came standard with the BLIS radar. Halogen tail lamps come with either BLIS or no BLIS. I have a Lariat Value trim and it originally came with halogen non BLIS tail lamps. When I upgraded to the LED's I had to order and replace the rear wiring harness to support the rear LED's. If your planning on keeping the halogens then you should be fine. One quick way to see if you have all the wires needed will be to remove the black mirror trim piece on the inside of the door to expose the connector from the door to the tow mirror. If you have the 22 pin connector and wires in pin 13 & 20 you will be good to go. It will just be a matter of swapping the top mirror glass out on each mirror so you have the orange dot indicator and a using Forscan to code a few modules in order to get it to operate. You will have to run 2 wires inside your tow mirrors to get power to the led indicator. I took my truck to my local car stereo shop and they ran
the wires for me. It's a lot more economical than replacing each mirror that already has the wires. (about $750 ea. vs. $80 at the car stereo place). The top glass itself with BLIS will run about $75 ea. There is another forum user who can help you with giving you those values to change if you are familiar with using Forscan? I will be more than happy to assist as I just finished this project 2 weeks ago and it works as it should with no problems. I will try to send some photos when I get a chance for install.
The red lines would be the new wires. You can tap into the harness with posi taps or other auto taps. I chose to unpin 13 & 20 from the connector, and twist the new wires to the harness. I then used heat shrink to avoid a short. This way I didnt have to tap into the trucks harness. This is how it would look if you tap with posi tap.
I just checked and yes I have those wires !! Your info and photos have been very helpful, I found the taillights and I'm sure to get a part number on mirrors..seems pretty simple.
You can find the mirrors on ford parts webpage. The glass pops out fairly easy if You use 2 screw drivers or 2 trim removal tools. You can watch a youtube video on how to remove superduty mirror glass. Just Make note of Where you remove the defroster wires black and Gray if I'm not mistaken so you can put it back on the new glass in the correct position for the defrost to work.
Non BLIS mirror removed. Position of wires for defrost.
You will have to have male female spades added to the wires you run. Cut off Fords connector and have stereo shop use male/femae spade connectors so you can plug into the glass.
I used electrical tape at first just to see if it would work. After it worked I then removed the tape and used heat shrink I just don't have a pic of that final product but it gives you the idea.
