On my Subaru, it was a standard 5 pin relay under the hood in the fuse panel. I am not 100% sure the Excursion has a relay for the A/C compressor, but I think it should. Take a look at your owners manual fuse panel diagrams and see if you can locate it. Take the relay out and go to any parts store to match it.
Would it behoove you to buy a small gauge, or a can with a gauge and one without the gauge and sealant if leak sealant is a concern for you? I don't have my original can so I don't know if it had leak stop in it or not but it wouldn't surprise me. On the shelf is some DuPont stuff with no sealant in it.

I'm heading for Walmart after everyone goes to bed tonight. It's a 2hrs round trip.
Symptoms : When first starting, rapid on/off cycling, then after a minute or two it stays on and runs a while.
Seems to run until we stop at a light, or stop at a gas station or something, then doesn't get cold any more.
After sitting a few hrs, it again cools, but we're talking a guess of about 60F-70F.
Which switch would you guess?
Can I remove the switches without opening the refrigerant?
I have today and tomorrow, then 16-18hrs drive home with 6 people...
Might call that urgent, lol.
Thanks!
What year model ETC is the rig you are working on or better yet a vin number and I may be able to pull up schematics on the electrical side to help out.

It's 2002 Excursion 4wd Limited. California GPR
I connected the gauge on the van today. It was in the yellow warning area.
Used a screwdriver to release a fair amount of freon (into approved vacuum container, of course) until it was in the blue "charged" zone.
It seems to be working right now,but only idled a bit and drove about a mile.
I'll try it out as I make another 2hr round trip to NAPA to pick up both high and low pressure switches. Not gonna hurt to replace them, less to do later
