I'm new to this forum, posting and all. Looking for some more details on the transmission temp gauge in my 2004 F350. It has the 5R110W transmission. I read in the manual the trans temp should run 150 - 170 deg. (An independent trans shop told me 170 - 190 deg is normal.) What is the temp of the fluid when the gauge hits the bottom of the yellow arc? What is the approx temp of the fluid when the needle is mid range on the normal arc?
The gauge will be mid range when the trans is warmer than 50°F and colder than 230°F. When it reaches 230°F it moves to the yellow range. I think it moves to the red range about 260°F.

I think the "gauge" is not really a gauge, but a 3 position indicator that looks like a gauge.
The needle moves to one of 3 positions based on data from the computer.
You don't know if the temp is hanging around 150-180 or 200-225, both are considered "normal".
An OBD port data reader or UltraGauge EM Pluscan display will get you the actual temp the computer reads from the trans temp sensor.
