Trans Temp warmup normal?

Hey guys, have a question about my trans temp. I just bought an F350 CC 7.3 Lariat. It has a stock trans temp gauge in the cluster and is stock overall. When I start the truck and let it warm up, the trans temperature will get to about the middle of the indicator without driving the truck. It typically stays there when driving as I'm not towing anything (yet). I would think this is normal since the TC is turning as the engine idles but wanted to make sure this is correct.

I will be adding gauges and am considering an aftermarket trans temp indicator. Are they much better than the factory gauge?

Thanks,

JP

The stock trans temp gauge in more like a glorified "idiot" light. It will move to a certain point when it's up to a preset operating temp and stay there until the temp reachs a high limit and then go to its max. You basicly, have only a low, mid, and high reading on the gauge. It is not proportionate to actual temp. You need a "real" gauge to monitor the temps properly.

X2 what Roland said. I have an aftermarket gauge and it accurately reads true operating temps verses the off, running and hot reads of the factory temp gauge. There are instances in the winter time when the factory gauge is reading in the middle when my aftermarket gauge hasn't moved over 100 degrees yet.

Yeah, it will read normal (middle of the gauge) at about 50 degrees.
