Pulled the transmission only to find that there is no frost plugs back there and the back of the motor is dry as chip. Can't figure out where the antifreeze came from that was definitely in the bell housing. checked around the heads and the whole outside of the motor has no indications of leaks. Going to check the rest of the frost plugs tomorrow to see if they have a possible leak and followed the oil pan. Took the transmission off for nothing. I did stop in to the transmission shop and borrowed an empty casing from an overdrive to check if it clears everything so thinking seriously now in spending the bucks now that I have it out, it does mean another new drive shaft though..
That sucks you didn't find the leak after all that
I guess I should have done more research to find out that Ford didn't put frost plugs there. I'm feeling dumber by the day. I did stop in to see a friend today and he had a transmission jack he lent me which made it very easy to remove..so should be just as easy to reinstall this one or a new AOD ..

Do your heater lines run over the back of the engine and the trans has a vent opening on top of the bell housing?

That will be a big help..
Does the truck have a heater core with hoses on the firewall above the back of the engine??
No I plan to keep it all Ford and against my better judgement... I'm pricing out overdrive transmissions and whatever else may be involved or even possibly a gear vendors overdrive..

Maybe the clamps are loose
I did check my hoses , the outside of the motor is dry and so is the firewall, going to check the frost plugs above the motor mounts to see if they are leaking and if antifreeze could be following the oil pan gasket back to the bell housing..only other thing I can think of..
