It seems one of my hinges had an incident awhile back when opening and then closing leaving that side up in the air by 4-5 inches. I can see what looks like a separation in the middle and a 3/8" button which is not visible on the good hinge. I would assume it popped out of a recessed hole I can't see.

Not sure if repairable so I called around about hinges. Obviously Carpenter is repros but when talking to Green Sales the guy did say some of their hinges could also be repros and not actual Ford. Question is has anybody any experience with a repro hinge for our hoods and what did they think?

 

They are "OK".... Thing is, there isn't really a choice in the matter is there? Whattaya gonna do with a sprung hood hinge? It needs replaced. Some say they have had luck having them repaired. I dunno.

 

I've heard some bad things about the reproduction hood hinges. See if this search works for you. Not too many to read.

Which one are you needing? I have one original from a parts truck. I had my originals rebuilt by the guy who's the only one that machines and presses the pins as original. Nice job but expensive. Possibly the one I have might save you some money. With the weight and cantilever on the hood, I didn't want to mess with reproductions.

 

Hinges did not come with the springs.

*Carpenter "made a deal" with FoMoCo, can buy parts direct from them that they are planning to obsolete.

Carpenter's repro parts are usually not listed on PartsVoice.com & rearcounter.com .. Two of the three online parts locator sites I used to get these sources.

In talking with Green Sales I was told some could be repro hinges but which upon purchase? Their price $140 per. Carpenter could be both but then again how do you make sure you get the Ford part? Carpenter is at $70 which screams repro and none original Ford.

I have a NOS passenger side.

I just bought a pair from Carpenter but have not tried them yet.

Had a different set of repops from Drake and the fit was poor at best. Installed a known good original set and the hood aligned perfectly.

 

I kinda doubt that 'ol Bob is reproducing these hood hinges, so he's probably buying them from Carpenter or ?

Bob originally lived in the San Fernando Valley, moved to Grants Pass OR probably when the valley began to "go downhill."
