I just inherited a 1964 Ford F100 Custom Cab from my grandpa. It does not have an engine and I was wondering what my options would be if I were to order a crate motor? Any help and advice in restoring this beauty would be appreciated.
Also, what year Ford truck parts are compatible with a 1964?
I would keep it simple. It would be great if you could find a good period engine...292 V8 or a 223 6. If you can't find the factory type engines and all the stuff, later model stuff can still be pretty simple.
A 300/4.9 six up to 96 goes in real easily. Use aftermarket 53-64 FE mounts.
A 302/5.0 goes in easily with aftermarket mounts.
Both engines will bolt up to a c4. You can use a crossmember from a 65 up truck for the c4 or use an aftermarket trans crossmember.
So.....
300 six or 5.0....C4 . That's about as simple as gets for an engine swap. Nothing will have to be cut off the truck the C4 will clear the old bellhoising mount.
Swapping any other engine size besides the 223/262/292 into a 1961/64 F series truck will require aftermarket engine mounts, plus the trans and bell (or converter) housing) from whatever the engine came from.
