Taken on the Cades Cove Loop (Great Smoky Mountains National Park) this past weekend...he/she got a little annoyed and started huffing and walking toward us...we left!
I went out two weeks ago hoping to fill my black bear tag. I didn’t see any black bear but I did see two of these and a bunch of other game. The other one was much bigger and was eating a elk or a deer, couldn’t tell for sure it was pretty far away.

Picture out the side window, also in Great Smoky Mountains this week May 13-16.
We saw 14 bears in four days. Twice sow with two cubs.
Beautiful shot!
We've travelled and stayed in Cades Cove for several years and the last two times we've been there ('21 & '23) we've seen many more bear than say 5-10 years before. I'm glad they're making a comeback. I was hoping to see some elk, but seems most of them are on the Cherokee side of the Smokies.
Last weekend we saw probably 20+ black bears with several cubs. I think the one that started huffing at me had some cubs in the woods behind her...yet we saw many people get within 10 yards of these animals. One group of folks were gathered around one that was feeding down in a culvert and I'd say they were all within 20-feet of it. You never know what these docile-looking animals may do.
Of course I don't think anyone in their right mind would approach that bear in GAZZILLA's post!
A little wildlife at the office the other day, Cow Elk popped her head up as I drove in. Then at lunch a pair of Red tail Hawks sat up in the tree in front of me.
All over from Alabama to Texas I've seen trains like that going down the highway usually being pulled by a rusted out Toyota 4 runner or rusted out Toyota pickup.
