As long as you don't get billed for the tow. Usually the Law has to ticket the vehicle. Then have it impounded. A towing company may not want to get involved unless requested by the Sheriff.
That makes it easier on your pocket book. Wonder if you should have anything in writing in case the owner tries to come back on you?? Of course you can always charge a hefty parking fee..../ day...
So the wheels have started turning in my head. Gonna call DMV tomorrow and get the ball rolling for a abandoned Vehicle. Best case i end up with it drop a couple hundred bucks get it running and list it for sale for $1500. Worst case i end up with it, part it out and scrap the rest or the registered owners reply back comes to pick it up and I collect storage fee for however long it's here.
bummer that the tow company didnt come by... weve had a couple happen at where i work... first time it took 2 tow companys... 2nd time was easier.. we called the one that actually showed up to come get the other that was abandoned..

Though you may make a few bucks off of it, if it doesn't move, it would be less headache if he just hadn't left it there. I mean hell, doesn't he know someone that can tow it? If the GF lives just a 1/2 mile away he could almost drag it there with just a chain. I can't imagine towing it that far would be all that much. I know tows from Raleigh to anywhere in Raleigh are only about 60$ plus additional time for labor if needed.
His gf parents pretty much said if he walked up, he wouldn't walk away type deals they despise him from what I have gathered.
Apparently somebody called the sheriff because my Neighbor meet me as soon as I got home and said one had stopped by today. Then the tow truck finally showed up also and apologized tmfor forgetting. I know the Guy and his wife normally runs the office and keeps him straight nut she wasn't in Monday. So I did a little weedeating after dinner and came into take a shower. I had just got in when the wife said they had showed up knocking on the back door. By the time I got out they were gone, but my neighbor said they came by his house and were asking where the truck had gone. So he told them it had been towed and he said they had some bull crap story about they were going to get it fixed Friday and get it out of here... oh well to bad to sad shouldn't of been living in my front yard, should of okayed leaving it there for a week with me, and shouldn't of snatched the tags.
So I made sure everything was locked up in the yard just in case.

It's gone, that's a good thing. BS about getting it fixed. Especially when he took the tags.
Did some repair work for a guy once. It didn't bother me that he left the vehicle on the property....until he took the tags. When I gave him a bill for storage, he came and got the car.
I never heard of someone leaving a vehicle in someone else's yard without knocking on the door and saying "hey I broke down, I promise I am going to come back for it" etc. Rude of them to leave for it a week and expect it not to be towed!
Larry glad it's gone and it's one less headache to deal with. I agree with locking everything up. It's that weird mentality people have now. "It's not my fault it broke down or that it was in your yard, but since YOU called the tow truck, YOU should have to pay for it, so I'll just take this..." People don't take responsibilities for their actions, or want to step up and ask for a favor, such as leaving the vehicle until the weekend. Rather just leave it and hope you don't do anything about it.
Hopefully it is over and done, and nothing you own 'walks off' So where are the Lil Miss Blue pics? Let's focus on what's important now!!
