Injector decisions

So I've got everything pulled apart for glowplugs replacement and turbo rebuild. Injectors is something I've always wanted to upgrade. And I figure I should just do it while everything is ready. Either way I'm going to pull injectors to replace O rings. So I figure let's just get it out of the way.

I have about $1800 to spend.

Looking at 160/30 single shots.

I have a T5000, 6337 intake, 360 rebuild in progress with billet comp wheel, 4 inch exhaust, and Hydra.

Can't decide between PIS, Full Force, Baby Swamps, or Rosewood.

GO! Lol

I have owned stock and 160/30's.

Per Cleatus12r, don't waste money on 30% nozzles. I now echo that statement. You will NEVER regret going with 80% nozzles due to their inherent capability to control FIPW and EGT's via a much shorter injection event window. 30% nozzles DO NOT possess that ability. 160/0's are even more limiting than the 30% nozzles.

Going from 30% nozzles to 80% nozzles dropped EGT's by approximately 200 degrees on this truck. I chose PIS as you can see.

If there is a tuning concern with going bigger than 30% nozzles, find a different tuner.

Ryan Casserly at Full Force diesel backed my play through a lot of my screw-ups - they really made me feel like I had support.

That's one of the key things for me: When modding, we're going out there off the beaten path - and it's reassuring to have a safety net.

Don't forget or overlook that you will need to adjust tuning for single shots if it's not already done.

I have talked to multiple people about getting different tunes regardless of what size I go with.

So 160/80 eh?

That is a good all around injector and keeps HP low enough that most other components are still going to be OK. If you have an automatic transmission, maybe start saving your loose change for a rebuilt one.

175/80 is a common choice as well, so are hybrids...

It all depends on what your goal is for the truck and how you plan to drive it.

I have about 6k on a rebuilt trans in there now. Had to get that before I could even test drive the truck. Thats how much I wanted diesel. . .

That was a thought I had, I dont want to melt/bend anything else.

I had been advised by a PIS dealer that 160 was good with a stock turbo with the stuff I have/will do to that.

Im not gonna lie, Its gonna get DRIVEN. I mean not red line off of every stop but definetly not 1500 rpms until it shifts into 4th. Im young and I got a big truck with soon to be lots of power. I mean cmon

As far as my goal with the truck. I just wanna build it. I mean short of pulling the motor and replacing EVERYTHING which may happen years down the road. I mean about 400 RWHP would be fine. Thats nearly double what its got. Currently its just a DD.
I got a good trans rebuild and they know what they are doing, and I have confidence in the build. While my truck was in there they were building a trans for a dodge that was putting out over 1k in torque. They musta dropped a 7.3 in it or something lol.

I listened to everyone's advice and went with 160/80 injectors. However, I found a company called Unlimited Diesel Performance that sells injectors with a lifetime warranty for a little extra peace of mind.

I haven't really put very many miles on them yet. I just finished the installation and I'm waiting on some registration stuff to get sorted out before I can legally drive it.

The quick trip I took around the block was promising though. Had a lot of zip to it.

I have some more research I have decided to go with 160/30% nozzles. Read that 80% really only helps at high rpms and that the 30 has better torque on the dyno. I rarely exceed 2k on the tach.

I'm now decided between PIS and FF. Hope to have something ordered tomorrow.

Can I ask what disadvantage you see in the 80% nozzles? I've seen the advantages people claim they have over a 30%, specifically in this very thread. But since the discovery of good tuning (gear Head) I've never heard of a down side to going with the 80%.

A few of the guys who suggested 80s have run both. And regretted the 30s. It's your money to do with as you please. But after reading through this thread and dozens of others on injectors and tuning. I'm a little surprised this is the decision you came to.

Edit:
Per jlh3s post #2. I think you should consider looking up some of the posts from cleatus12r. He's kind of our resident tuning expert. He certainly knows better than most the relationship between the hardware and software on these trucks. It's his posts which long ago put 80% nozzles on my wish list. For the reasons jlh3 mentioned above. 200 degree drop in egts is serious business.
