That said we have a shop in town that is rated very good. His policy
is that if he is at a point where the rear cover is exposed and the heads
are off he will do lifters if the engine has more than 200K on it.

I think if I were down to the point where I had the heads off and
the trans out I would pull the rear cover and replace the lifters
and add a new style set of push rods.

The only thing I question is new lifters on a used cam. It used to be
that you worked very hard to get each lifter back where it came from
do to wear patterns on the cam and lifter. But that was back in time
when we did not have the roller cams and lifters in use.
At that point if it weren't any more for labor, your talking another grand or so for a stage 2 cam and lifters right? Maybe worth it?

I would have to ask him. He also has his "trick" cam too.

To change the cam you have to drop or remove the crankshaft.

Does anyone know the symptoms of the motor that caused Anthony to tear into the motor in the video?

The first time is was squeak at shutdown and metal in the bottom of the oil filter housing.
The second one was do to a poor job of heat treating by the cam when it was reground.

Not if you're real good with a dial gauge

IIRC Anthony also has a way to remove the cam with the crank balance in place.

you have to pull the crank to do a cam you can't pull the cam past the bolted flange on the crank to get it out. Flange is a no no to touch see Jack's thread on intake thump I got pics of one the roller fell off metal in pan not pumps going back in Monday from what I've seen most people get the intake thump cause it's an intake valve but some get the crank and slow on one cyl version that's an exhaust valve not opening fast enough anyway a bumpstick in a 6.0 BTW mines in an E450.
