Our middle schools had rifle ranges in the basement. My dad's yearbook shows a high school rifle team.
During the 80's at my high school my dad taught a state sponsored hunter safety course as an elective. They did their firearms training on the ROTC indoor range at the school with the rifle team .22's. That went on till about 88 or so. When I graduated in '92 we still had a rifle team.
Meanwhile in Utah, I can stroll down the hallway (carrying of course) my child's elementary school without worry. CCW holders, police and teachers are authorized to carry anywhere in the schools. The Canadian gun enthusiasts I know are absolutely jealous of our freedom's and liberties. Americans just have to resist giving any more of our freedoms and liberties away. I'll also add that most Americans are nice and friendly just like AMXDreamer. So long as our Constitutional liberties are not infringed.
I really hate to see how the country has become with gun laws. I'm strongly in favor of a nation-wide CC permit. Good anywhere. Canada is ridiculous, California is ridiculous, and it has become abundantly clear over the years that gun restrictions don't work. (i.e. Chicago)
In better news, my state went from a lenient CC law to not requiring one at all in the last couple of months.
I'm in favor of a nationwide conceal carry permit as well. We already have the permits...they're called social security cards. Give us our rights back nationwide. Alaska started allowing conceal carry without permit a few years ago. We can still get permits here to have reciprocity with 38 other states and become NICS exempt so we don't have background checks when buying guns. We shouldn't be restricted at all when it comes to carrying a tool to protect ourselves.
Its a shame California has been totally ruined by liberals. It is a truly beautiful state. Utah has its nice places, but I'm not much of a fan of the desert.

You and I think quite alike, Nick. Citizens have the right to keep and bear arms. No state or government should be able to suppress that. Instead, they should focus on who they allow to become a citizen and gain that right, if they are concerned about safety.

You Sir need to run for office in Canada. You have at least my vote if you decide to.

All three of my boys were in ROTC while in High School. They had a Pistol Team and a Color Guard. The Color Guard went to the National Finals. They also use to due a funnd raised running targets for National competition at the gun range. The someone complained about the M1 Garands they were using and it all came to a stop (thanks California). However, with the help of ROTC, my oldest is the Brigadier Commander of the most badass and first ever Apache/Gray Eagle Unit in Alaska. My middle son was a crash unit firefighter in the AF and then LEO before becoming a commercial helicopter pilot. My youngest never made it to the military but is a California Highway Patrol officer.
Believe it or not DC and New Jersey are worse than California.
I think we are now at 11 states that allow "Constitutional Carry" meaning, no permit for open or concealed. Then you have some that allow "stand your ground" and some with "Duty to retreat". As another poster commented, some states recognize castle doctrine for your vehicle, others do not.
I would hope for permitted CCW to be recognized in all 50.
I am a strong proponent of the Right to bear arms, I carry every day, but I do believe those who choose that right should have training and be responsible.
Taking it back to our trucks, how and were best to properly secure the firearm is the intent of the post.

One minor problem being I'm an American citizen, not a Canadian citizen! But thanks for the support. The Canadians are currently in the process of quickly letting in all the people Trump hopes to keep out, so enjoy!

We will be at around 5,000' so the weather is pretty good. We will be on the Paiute Trail (1,000 mile ATV system) and across the Highway from a river with fishing and whitewater rafting. If it starts warming up a little, you jump on you quad and in no time you're at 11,000'. The hardest part about moving is leaving kids behind and our home of 40 years.

Whereabouts in Utah are you moving to? We have relatives in Sandy and friends in SLC.

Have you seen our Prime Minister? Trust me anyone can get in office here in Canada. Its a joke really. As for all the liberals coming north, all I can say is this:
