I was checking the Ford accessories website last weekend and noticed that the console vault is available for the flow through console trucks AND for the split bench guys. There is a version that goes into the under seat storage section in the center of the bench seat. This was news to me as I was under the impression that only the trucks with buckets and a console could get the safe.

And in Cali you cannot carry a loaded firearm in your vehicle unless you have a ccw, which is impossible to get in this state, The firearm and ammo must be kept is such a way as one or the other cannot be reached by the occupants, I.E. firearm in the cabin, ammo in the bed/trunk. Oh and unless your a "non-violent" gang member, that has been released early from prison to reduce prison population, then all the above doesn't matter.

"It is very safe to live in NY due to the enactment of the 'Safe Act' by the ultra liberal Cuomo and his NYC ilk" HaHa. An just across the border the "friendly" Canadians are seeing 200% annual increases in gun related homicides as more and more gang activity escalates coupled with restrictions on their police departments to detain and search suspects. And they are experiencing increased pressure from the anticipated closing of the US borders and expulsion of many who have entered this country illegally.

I digress. The thoughts on storage of firearms in a vehicle was explored greatly in another thread last summer. Interesting reading if one cares to revisit. But here in NY (and several other states) failure to adequately secure one's firearms in a vehicle which results in a theft of the firearm can result in felony charges against the owner. This should not be taken lightly since vehicle break ins are rampant. Over 25 years working at or visiting job sites in major cities my vehicle was burgled 7 times. Under today's laws I would have served time and been stripped of all rights had there been a firearm involved with these thefts. And no, a lock on a vehicle door is not considered a secure storage space. The fine government officials have even stated that one should expect their vehicle to be broken into and assume the space is insecure. Just call 911 and the government will respond when they feel like it, if available.

Do whatever you want with your firearms but be sure of your responsibilities as a gun owner. Believe me, I am not a proponent of over regulation but I also realize that as a citizen in a progressive democratic society I am helpless and powerless to change the eroding rights of firearms owners. And in too many places my only defense has become "hands up, don't shoot" which means nothing to the guy with a stolen handgun and a black hoodie.

PS A little food for though from a personal defense instructor. The reference to a gun is better perceived by the opposition when the term "firearm" is used. Much like the scary black tactical weapons are no different than any other firearm, really, the notion of "assault weapon" or "AK47" or "automatic" and even just "gun" feed into the liberal pea brain vocabulary invoking thoughts of fear and paranoia. I dislike having to avoid certain words in conversation but living in a land 65% ultra liberal dems I try not to incite the ruling class, although I fear it really makes no difference, more and more laws are coming as their ranks fill through promises of government handouts and services creating an ever dependent class of citizens and voters, to the point NY is trying to enact state law mandating everyone vote or be fined by the state. (Sound much like the eastern European Communist Block?)
In NY, if someone breaks into your car and steals a calculus book, then uses it to beat someone to death...is that a similar charge to if your gun is stolen and use in a crime?

I live in Canada and it is unlawful to even transport a pistol, unless you are going to a gun range or gun smith. You can carry a rifle, however it must be non restricted and you will need to prove why it was there (self defense is not a good answer). If you are carrying a restricted weapon, loaded or unloaded and not about to walk into a gun shop, you are going to jail. Gun laws here are VERY strict, so not worth having a weapon in the vehicle. My AR- 15 is at home in a gun case.

I mentioned it before and I'll say it again. Before you answer a question like this on the internet make sure none of the images you have posted (or will post) give away your GPS location in the EXIF header. Be careful. Someone could find your location from your post history and steal your gun.

I use the EXIF Viewer extension for Chrome to see location info. Just hover over a pic and if it has a location embedded, you can zoom into the location in Google maps.

It's cool if you accept the risk, but it's also easy enough to just turn it off. Personally, having fewer anonymous people know my whereabouts is just my preference. Just passing this along for those who may not be aware that it even exists.

Right now it is only the "Shooter's Bible" as a felony. And at the rate regulations are pouring out of Albany just wait a day or two and the calculus book will be there too. Of course if you beat a mathematician it automatically becomes a "hate crime" making the professor "more dead" than just an ordinary "dead", as it would be for a common citizen.

Can't wait to be on the road to see you and AK! 5 more weeks till we start!

On my hip where it belongs..

Oh, and I live in Kentucky, it's a fair bet that almost every house has a gun or seven.. so I don't worry about no exif data on my pictures.. LOL

One of you guys who answered with where you store your weapon posted a picture of floor mats recently that had GPS coordinates in it. Not going to say who it was, but the site ops really should be stripping GPS EXIF from pics. I use the EXIF Viewer extension for Chrome to see location info. Good advice. Thanks for the links on how to turn off that location tagging. Valuable lesson.

Had a gun stolen out of my truck a year ago out of my driveway when I left it unlocked. Had a rash of driveway break ins in the area for a bit. Local kid OD'ed and since then all the break ins have stopped. Cops actually recovered it in a drug bust later that month and I got it back.

Now I keep the truck locked. It's under video surveillance at my office and at home there's a new dog to keep those folks away.

Plus, I live in the rural south. I'd wager >50% of trucks have a gun in them. I can confirm that 90% of the folks that I know with a truck are packing. It's really no secret.

I like the OP question. So all politics aside.
I start with, I live in gun friendly Arizona and I have a CCW
The majority of the time mine is on me. I find that on longer trips it is not comfortable so I just lay it in the large open section of the console, in its holster. Makes it very easy to grab to put back in my waist band when I exit the truck.
I do have the console vault. I use it in the event I can not carry into a building or so I can be compliant when traveling to or through a place or state that has specific requirements. I do want a good way to secure it in the vault, in my holster so it doesn't move around.

I live in Commifornia, I am not allowed to protect myself. In the event that I am in a position where I need to protect myself and or my family I keep a cell phone and a pen in the center console. I can call 911 and then jot down a quick description of the guy who killed us so the police have something to start with when they get around to it.

If I lived in a different place with different circumstances I think it would be neat to store a small pistol in the passenger head rest. Cut out the foam in the shape of the pistol so it sits flush and devise a quick access by using a velcro flap in the back. I bet someone could market that idea. I want 7% of the company if you do.

Good reading here.......but.........I carry a little pocket .380 that I forget that I even have it sometimes!! And I live in gun friendly AZ, and have made a personal commitment to stay out of non-gun states!! Yeah, I was in commiesota last year, and kept the sidearm in the 5er while there. And left shortly thereafter!!
To ALL.......lock up the thugs, hang serious/repeat offenders, keep firearms free!!

S&W 9MM in the console, S&W Bodyguard .380 in the door, and depending on what part of town I'm in S&W Model 686 .357 on the dash. Just kidding about the last one. The .380 is conceals easy so I grab it when I get out. I do have CCW permit.

I use the magnet for this reason thats been brought up in this thread. I put it there while im driving for comfort and easy access and carry it when not in the truck. Im not a fan of leaving firearms in my vehicles since they are easy to break into. There are few places in my state where i cant carry and i dont go to those places often.

I recommend leaving the revolver at home and replacing it with a Benelli M4 for a dash gun. Nothing says "I am not your next victim" like a Benelli M4.
