1985 4x2 302EFI with AOD trans. Shifts up and down smoothly through gears but only shifts into OD when lifting off of gas pedal, A bit more violent of a shift. It does downshift smoothly from OD. Fluid is pink and does not smell burnt. Looking for a place to start. Other info needed to help me?
Thanks
The AOD is designed to shift into overdrive when the driver eases up on the accelerator pedal. Under light throttle, that is usually around 45 MPH.
It shouldn't shift violently. If the TV cable is adjusted too tight, it will. When that happens the TV pressure inside the transmission will be higher, and overdrive will come in late, harsh, clunky, or not at all. With the correct TV pressure, overdrive should come in very smoothly, without having to lift your foot off the gas pedal.
Thank you both. The truck is new to me so no I have not messed with TV cable. I see that the fluid level is overfull based on the owners manual instructions for checking the level. Cold or warm it is past the hash marks. Let me first get the fluid level right (siphon from fill tube?) and then I will follow the TV cable adjustment instructions if necessary.
