I didn't want to get rid of our last camper, but Julie said I would have to, if I wanted to get the TJ Rubicon because it was a financial decision. The New Jeep (at that time cost the price of the camper, her car, my jeep, and my motorcycle. She told me that if I wanted the Rubicon, the rest of them would have to go, in order to afford the Jeep.
She used to enjoy camping as well. We are going to try it out on Labor Day weekend, and Mom said she wasn't in a hurry to sell it, so If we wanted to wait to buy it in the spring, that would be fine.

Julie priced insurance, and we can buy it for a year really cheap.

We still have some talking to do, but the biggest thing is that we need to see if we can find storage for it for an affordable cost.

The bank may have some customers that have land that would let me park on their land.

I'd be weary to store it uncovered, campers roofs take quite the beating from the sun\rain\hail\snow so if you could find some sort of cover for it then you'd be miles ahead on maintenance and repairs. Once water starts leaking inside then your value plummets and it's hard to do repairs without tearing into the whole structure. Also, make sure you have full coverage if you do plan on storing it outside, we've had two campers "totaled" by hail and had pretty good insurance company payouts. The campers were still completely usable and it didn't turn it into a "salvage" title, the insurance company just couldn't insure them with us anymore.

I can understand having to sell the previous one for something else, that's what happened to us too. We bought\sold many campers for a few years and finally scored our old 03' Prowler for a great price. Ended up selling it to make the down payment on the new house, that one was still my favorite because it was light and had bunk beds.

We ended up talking about pop-up campers last night on a walk with the boys and dogs and I think we'll be in the market again after summer winds down and I have more time to shop classifieds and run out to pick them up with little notice. We're trying to plan next summer's vacation and are trying to pick the next national park to visit. It will be VERY difficult to compete with Yellowstone but so far we've discussed wanting to visit Smoky Mountain NP or Yosemite NP. The Yosemite trip would be quite the haul, but we could do RT66 on the return trip and show the boys some classic roadside America along the way.

That sounds like an amazing trip! My parents used to haul a camper around the country, because fuel was cheap, and they had a crew cab truck that would pull tree stumps without blinking. I have very fond memories of staying in the camper, however as we got older, gas prices raised, and staying in a motel price took the price of the extra gas to pull the camper, and it wasn't as stressful.

The girls are all excited about the possibility of getting a camper. Julie is even pretty excited about it. She has been making phone calls pricing insurance, doing research, etc..I haven't even had to prod her to do it, like I would if I was the only one interested.

Have fun with the camper Curtis. Did you ever touch base with Rex in Wamego?

We haven't moved on it yet. We still have a lot of soul searching to do first.

Yeah. I don't think we can pull the money together to store it inside, but we will have full coverage for it.

I need to check with the gentleman from Wamego that Del suggested and the fella that runs one just down the road here from my work.

That's understandable, we're lucky that we pay $65 a month for covered storage but I know that is probably hard to find up your way.

Either way, an uncovered camper is better than no camper at all

Chad, guess you'll have to just bite the bullet and get a rig like Brad and Arlene's

Curt, guess we'll just have to have another GTG for you to tour the camper! lol

I wish it wasn't so darn heavy, otherwise I would have hauled it out to the CS&W a couple of times by now. Well, that plus the fact that Jamie refuses to drive the TJ on the highway or pull the camper with the Denali would also be a hurdle to jump
