Camper

I have been really tossing around the idea of buying a popup- slide in pickup box camper. I have a truck to put it on- and as soon as I get a car trailer that will be my next purchase.

Anyone ever had one? Thoughts? Concerns? Praises?

Dennis had one or two, but he didn't keep it very long, mostly, I think because it created a lot of side wind, and made the truck tip a lot. In addition, his family was growing and it was tight in there with three people. I don't recall them having bathrooms, or showers, but I know some do.
We have a second cousin that travels the US with theirs which has every possible option you can get in one, but he hauls it with a dually truck for stability.

I personally would want to know I had good tires on the rear before going that route, because if a tire blows out with one of those on, it can change your angle pretty quick.

We had a used popup pull type camper and loved it. I have no experience with an in the bed camper. I would think one would be a nice way to have a camper and pull something else and also not have the high profile of a regular camper.

Speaking from experience, one should definitely have good tires on a heavy duty pickup if you are going to be towing or hauling on a regular basis.

I have always wanted a pop up camper, but it would be difficult, or awkward to pull both a car trailer, and pop up camper both at the same time.

You need a longer trailer Curtis with a popup on the front.

When I retire again in a few years I have been thinking about selling my house and buying a class B 4x4 diesel motor home and a light trailer to pull my trail wheeler on.

There used to be a few web sites where folks would buy a diesel 4x4 or gas van and convert it themselves. I know a guy in the Denver area that has a Dodge PU and put a shell on it and has done the inside to suit his needs.

Just a few ideas to kick around.

I always thought an old ambulance would make a great tow rig-- lots of power and lights :-)

My girls keep saying they wish we had a camper, and the wife says we can have one, if I get rid of the car trailer and the Jeep, or my truck, or my other truck.

I just don't see it happening. Mostly the wife keeps saying we have no place to store it. our garage and driveway is near full capacity. It makes sense, I just miss having one.

put one on your trailer when it is not in use -- or store it somewhere I guess?

I hate HOAs-- but probably because I would be the one they would always say was breaking the rules :-)
