Nice Craftsmanship. I wonder how heavy it is. I don't particularly love the design of those, because I wonder if because of its design if it is a fuel mileage hog, creating a vacuum behind the truck. However, would I take it to Colorado and stay in it for a month? Yeah. I think I would.
I may have inherited my parents camper over the weekend. Mom says she isn't going to use it anymore since Dad passed, and she said it was mine if I wanted it. Otherwise she is going to sell it.
Problem starts of where to park it when I am not using it. I don't want to pay a bunch each month to store it, and I also don't want it to be too far away so that I can go do maintenance on it when needed, or check on it.
Its just far too big to park at our house, and I don't think the HOA would appreciate it stored there.
Curtis, there is a week before the kids go back to school and then some good weekends after that. Why don't you see if she would let you use it for a month or two before this late Fall and do some camping with the family. If they enjoy it, then it would be a good investment. If you don't have time or they aren't too excited about the camping lifestyle, then pass on it and save the expense and hassle and use the money for an occasional weekend away at a hotel or resort instead. We love camping and I know Justin and his family do too, but for the investment you need to make it a priority.
If you have the camper for three or four months and never get it out, that will tend to answer your question about getting it. I'm making this assumption on your mom not needing to sell it right away. See if one of the places locally will let you store it without having to sign a year long lease.

Sweet, that's great!
I'll reference what I talked about before as the "best case setup" and say that you should just find covered storage nearby whatever lake you plan on frequenting. That way you're not beating up your tow rig with unnecessary wear and tear, and your rent will likely be cheaper than Manhattan. I wouldn't worry about doing maintenance on it too much, if you are visiting it on a semi-regular basis then you can knock things out as you use it (or take a couple days of PTO and stay at the lake to fix and and relax during the week )
I know it's a pain of packing for camping trips, but for us the packing process is honestly a total of about 40 minutes of packing it in\out 4 times for the weekend. (leaving home\arriving at camper\leaving camper\arriving at home). The majority of time spent is finding everything, packing food\clothes, etc.
I'm with Del 100%, camping with the family is an awesome bonding opportunity but with everything else kid-related it takes a lot of time and money commitments that you have to allocate up front, otherwise it falls apart and nobody enjoys it. We've talked about selling our camper several times with the main purpose being that we would be in a better financial position but it pains us to take away something that all 4 of us enjoy so much and get so much use out of. Guess we'll just end up pinching pennies for a couple more years, and I'm alright with that
