Wonder if self driving cars will need headlights? If everyone on the road were in a self driving vehicle, might just need enough light for pedestrians.
Hope I live long enough to see this, although I know that many here are not looking forward to the days of self driving vehicles and would never own or ride in one.
I will say that I did try a couple different halogen bulbs, and the best I used were the Philips X-treme vision. They were better than the stock halogens, but not as good as these new LED's. If you want to just stick with halogens, I would recommend the X-treme Visions. The set I took out of my truck when I replaced them with LED's were still running fine after 2 years.
I think laser headlights are going to replace LED and HIDs one day... But of course they will start in high end cars, high end trim lines first. (like the BMW i8) Maybe they'll cut through the fog better... (I know, bad pun)
But then when you crest a hill, you'll blind the oncoming traffic with the lasers!!
I installed a set of night eye bulbs tonight and yes they made a big difference from stock. They might have made a change in them because they were keyed correctly as far as I can tell. One thing I did do was use double sided tape to stick the control boxes to the truck to keep them from bouncing around.
Sylvania's web site shows the fog lights as 9145's. Are the 9005 / hb3's the same?
i had to remove the splash guard behind the fog lights and loosen the 3 Allen screws then put the 9005 light in and tighten you might have to remove and tighten a few times to get the right fit and you might have to remove the gasket for it to sit in there but it will fit fine and the h10 plug works with the 9005 plug just fine there will be no issues with water or moisture in the housing.
I'm going to install the VLEDS kit tommorow after work. Excited to see the results and the pure white light! I will say that the night eye light output patterns look really good, even in photos and not in person.
OKay here are the pics below of the color ,cutoffs and brightness at 30 feet away from the garage door again these don't blind other drivers ... I will take a few more tonight facing the road and driving too:-.
Just headlights . Headlights plus fog lights . Just foglights . Only high beams , the driver side light Patten is off a little bit . I will readjust it when it's not raining .the light output is GREAT
I installed the vled kit last Friday, very pleased with the results. Hardly any blotches or "dark spots". The few that it has are very light and can only be noticed in a scenario where there is no other lighting around, such as country roads, etc. I would describe the pattern as much more "filled in" and uniform, making it more useful and pleasing to the eyes. They actually made me realize how blotchy the Xenon Depot kit was. I also noticed that when I pull up to buildings or any wall, the cut off line of the light pattern is really sharp, like a projector. I'm fairly impressed and suprised by that. I also like that the high beams are actually useful on this kit, unlike the Xenon Depot kit. I will have to get pictures soon to show some patterns. The pure white color also goes better with the truck than the blue tint as well. Overall, I'm very happy and impressed, I guess I must have been in love with the color and brightness of the Xenon Depot kit, but after installing this vled kit, I realize how blotchy the Xenon Depots were.
The build quality of this kit is phenomenal. Very high quality all around. The only issue I ran into was the collars for the bulbs. They are aluminum, and the tabs that lock in place in the housing are not "ramped" like the factory bulbs. This caused the tabs to dig into the housing. I noticed it immediately though so no biggie, got a file out and spent 5-10 minutes filing the tabs to shape them like the factory bulbs, all good after that. This kit also came with dielectric grease, 3M double sided pads for the ballasts (or whatever they are called), and detailed instructions. The bulbs are clockable and telescope so I was able to match the factory filament position accurately.
I swapped the Xenon Depot kit into my wife's car, and they are absolutely awful in her housings. Blotchy as hell and each housing produces a very bright, overly concentrated light pattern about the size of a baseball if it's pulled withing 10 feet of a garage door. Everything else is scattered and crazy, they looked much better in my housings, I'll give them that.
09f250v10, glad to see your results were so good, and it appears you too have found the deficiencies in the Xenon Depot lights. Hopefully others will read this thread and avoid buying the Xenon's and pick one of the others that's been reviewed well by yourself and others.
Bohen, those patterns look really good (with the minor tweak needed on the DS high beam)! Very sharp cutoff on the beams too. Should make them really easy to adjust.
