I'm trying to track down a no start problem. You can see the full thread under the 385 section. Anyway could you let me know how it is hooked up. I've got a green wire that goes under the dash. A red wire the comes from under the dash and a black wire that is hooked to the distributor. I am assuming the red goes on the positive side, green on negative and black (from distibutor) on negative. This is a points distributor.
I can't believe one guy won't run out to his truck real quick to check the wiring on the coil that is right in front of the engine. Come on guys....help me out.
I have a pertronix, so I am not 100%, but in the instruction pamplet, it says that the 8 volts from the ignition switch and ballast resistor (or 12 volts without the ballast resistor) goes to the + side of the coil, and the points attach to the - side.
I don't know what that green wire is for, but there should not be anything hooked to the negative side of the coil except for the black wire coming from the points.
Thanks guys. Now I'm can't wait to run home at lunch and see if my truck will start! I hope that is the problem. I don't know what this green wire could be? The temp sender is already hooked up. It runs into the cab through the same hole as the temp sender wire and others. I will get under the dash and see where it goes from there.
