muffler time

Ok guy's I know this is purely personal but it's getting to the time to get some mufflers ( I would like to have them for initial start up ) Because of the vette diff it would be difficult and messy to run to the rear so the plan is to drop in front of the diff and turnouts . I like a reasonably noticeable sound but will be long tripping it so I ( my wife ) don't want it to drone or be loud in the cab . Again I know this is subjective and the more cab insulation the better but what are you guys running ? 408 small block ford with a healthy cam .

Mufflers are definitely a personal choice. I have a few car friends with different systems but have found I prefer the Borla mufflers. That is what I installed on my wife's 52 with a Coyote 5.0. Quiet while cruising, aggressive under acceleration and no drone. I'm sure you will get many other opinions no matter how wrong they are.

I chose the Magnaflow 11266 for the same reason. I don't need to hear and feel the exhaust 100% of the time. Just when I want to. And these are supposed to do just that. I looked at the borla too. But just could not pony up the extra cash.

Yes too bad rimrock stopped the vid right before he came down to idle I would have liked to hear it . But in any case that is close to what I'm after are your magnafow's similar to that and what engine do you have ?

Ya the magmafow were comparable in note from what I could research. My engine is a 68 ford 302 with a mild came and a 4 barrel carb.

Ive yet to fire the engine with the new exhaust and mufflers yet. I'm a few months away from that stage yet.

Mufflers

I used a kit from Summit Racing that came with an X-pipe system, i also bought 4 j-pipes and stainless steel clamps.

The mufflers were a Summit brand as well. The mufflers look like glasspack mufflers but are actually designed with two inner cones that are in opposite direction of each other. This makes them reversible, not that I needed them to be. They are 24" mufflers and relatively quiet. I haven't driven my truck yet, but they seem mellow and have a good tone.

I am running a Jaguar IRS with the full cage, so I have my pipes exiting in front of the rear wheels. My system is made from aluminized 2.5 inch pipe that I painted with high temperature paint.

Works for me - hope the photos help.

Thanks

Dan.

I installed DynoMax VT's in my 48 with a Ford 408. I love these because there is no drone in the cab unless you "get on it". Check out some sound bits on the Net.

I used this system. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/bor-10512/overview/ The kit included a set of these. https://www.borla.com/products/proxs...t__400481.html

I have found that most glass packs and a crossover give the sound qualities you want. I have a set of these Flowmaster HP-2 PERFORMANCE MUFFLERSon my 56 Y-bock and love the sound after I installed a crossover.

I healthy 408 and no tail pipes? I would go with either summit or Dynomax turbo mufflers, cheaper mufflers are usually quieter. I installed summit turbo mufflers with tail pipes on a nova and it sounded great, but with no tail pipes may be too loud. Forget flow masters, glass packs, or other can style mufflers, it will be too loud with no tail pipes. This is not a flathead engine LOL. My 383 with hooker aero chamber mufflers and no tail pipes sounds great but is too loud for road tripping and tail pipes are going on shortly. I must be getting old but if I can't hear the radio or have a conversation it is too loud. I would try to run tail pipes out the sides of the truck to quiet it down, pipes exiting right behind the cab makes it worse.

Dynaflo

I'm running 1990 5L with dual MagnaFlo S/S mufflers. Nice rumble under load but not as much as Rimrock's 52.

Can't hear them for wind noise at cruise.

I have dual flow master 40's (no crossover pipe) that dump right in front of the rear tires and they are very loud in the cab, like drpto70ss said I'm getting old and need to find a quieter mufflers too. I like the look of where my exhaust exits, but might have to re-think it if I can't find the right muffler.
