It was a constant battle replacing gaskets and seals so most gave up and just kept adding oil. My 56 F350 doesn't leak oil and I wouldn`t be surprised if that old Y block has never been touched. I did replace both the fuel and water pumps a couple of yrs ago..
I don't think they were really all that great but this one seems to be pretty good considering it sits most of the time.It seldom gets run, just a few times a yr when I water my trees.
Sometimes I go to my neighbour`s for water so I plate it for a 2-4 months, antique plates are cheaper than a $550 ticket for an unregistered vehicle. Sitting too much is not good either.
That 56 sits from late Sept till June, July depending on how dry it is. I have 7-8 registered in the summer including 2 all yr. I`m doing more than my fair share of supporting the insurance system.
There`s only about 5 and a half months of dry, salt free roads here so with working a bit now with yard maintenance and life getting in the way it doesn't leave a whole lot of time for cruising around. I could use 12 months of summer.
I manage to get at least 6,000 kilometers on each one every summer except this summer for the panel because I was changing outthe front suspension and why I didn't get more on the pickup
I don't think we put on more than a total of 20,000 a yr between my wife and I. We don`t get out much and live fairly close to town, most of our family is quite nearby.
