The running boards is where the problem lies, they don't match up to the fenders..

Well if the fenders are higher like you say you could add a filler, if they are lower like I thought just need to drill new holes in the fenders. abe had pictures of his truck before he put a new box on his..

It would be great if the fenders are lower, I`ll have to double check. I`ll look for Abe`s thread later tomorrow evening, we`re going out of town for the day. If needed I can use the 1954 box which has a bit of rust, the newer one is mostly rust free.

After thinking about it I think you're right about them being higher, it was to line up that short running board to the bottom of the cab..

Hello John, Steve, Shaun, Perry and all who lurk here. Just got back in town from a family reunion.
The newer box has the short running board but it night look weird on the 53.

You could move the running board brackets up higher on the frame and use the original long ones but might have to trim the part that goes under the cab..
