High idle
Does the 2002 7.3 have an automatic high idle in cold weather?When you start it after it runs for a few moments it goes into high idle until you hit the accelerator.
I had a 96 powerstroke before this one,it didn't do this.Just wondering?

Yes exactly. Hi idle and closing the exhaust back pressure valve to speed up engine heating. Braking or giving it fuel returns it to normal. Unless it's so cold the engine cannot stay warm enough at idle, then the hi idle/closed EBPV will resume as needed. Pretty nifty IMO.

The 1995-1997 vehicles don't. Just so you don't think that something was wrong with your old one.
