Installed joying Android head unit couple weeks back , just now wiring back up camera .
looking for a signal wire that is hot only in reverse , is there one under the dash or do I need to run into the rear harness ?
any ideas .
Not to change your mind, but I wired my camera up to be on all the time via an ignition hot wire that way I could use the camera anytime I wanted instead of only when in reverse. This is especially helpful for my truck because I have a manual transmission and sit in neutral a lot when looking at the camera screen.
In order to view the camera screen, I simply select the camera icon on the stereo and it is there, even if I am going 65 MPH down the road.
But, to answer your question directly I am not sure if there is a wire under the dash, but you might be able to find some more information by looking for a wiring schematic for our era of trucks through Google.
Sometimes my wife or daughter drive so I want it to be as " automatic " as possible .
searched found black and pink wire for trailer wiring under master cylinder going to try that .
thanks.

Doesn't state Year. So, Reverse Trailer Relay next to Brake Reservoir.
Mine is automatic and it can select it manually through my Pioneer head unit. Best of both worlds. I also have a second cam that I can select. I currently have it pointing at my 3 month old so I can check on her in the. Back seat.
I wired mine in backup only. My hookup was under the steering column. Reference backup light power in wiring diagram for your yr/model.
Like your idea for full time though. I have a little Pyle mounted on windshield in my 2000 f350 7.3. Wife got it for me for Christmas 2 yrs ago. Works great and night vision is great.
The blk/pink on my zf6 dead ends into the reverse sensor atop the trans which then becomes blue leading to the rear. I spliced into it for more reverse lights
I tapped into the wire under the fuse box. I will have to double check to see which wire I connected it to. I have mine coming on when I put it in reverse.
- I unbolted the fuse panel.
- removed the connector from the back.
- removed the push pin from the back of the connector
- stripped the wire back
- soldered another wire onto it
- used heat shrink to cover it.
- re-installed.
