random dieing

01 f250. Just bought from my brother. 140000 miles. Immaculate. Truck will die for no reason. Running down the highway, or sitting at a red light. Fires back up. Sometimes have to crank a few times. He has had at a mechanic and everything checks out good. Since birth its only had royal purple that he has changed every 5000 miles as well as all filters. Where do I start?

It would be best if you could scan it and read what codes it has stored. Other than that you could try cooling your injector pressure relay (IPR) with ice water when it dies and see if it helps any.

I agree with Walleye Hunter. Scan for codes and see if anything is in there. Random dying is often the CPS. (Cam position sensor)

I would go with a CPS, change it out and keep the other as a spare, win, win even if it is not the issue.

Get ONLY a OEM or international one. Riff Raff diesel has them.....

I agree 100 percent. When mine started going bad it did the same thing without a CEL.

Sorry, Ive been out of town. It died on my neice a few months ago, but started up. Brother took it to a mechanic, they had it three days. I'm assuming they checked for codes. Everything checked out good. I'm going to pick it up this weekend. Ive already ordered a CPS from riffraff and I got one for my 95 also. Oh hellllll, Need to change my name... I'm a 2 stroker now

Take your fuel filter out and look at your fuel bowl heater, its at the bottom of the bowl...mine was the style that has a thin wire with three spot welds to hold the wire.. the spot welds broke one at a time and would stall the engine, once all welds broke it blew the fuse to it.. the truck went to two different shops and they did not find out the problem.. its easy to check..probably 5 minutes topd.. the new style is much thicker.. good luck..
