I don't know what brought this up but the timing definitely moves as the engine is running.

But back on to your problem, the dist pin shearing is a sign that the oil pump is locked up. The dist gear and dist shaft engage and drive the oil pump. You can pull the dist and make sure it turns, usually that is not the problem though, usually it's the oil pump.

Thinking about the "wood" in the oil pan, I wonder if that is phenolic teeth off the timing gear on the front. They didn't use a metal gear, they used a phenolic gear to drive the camshaft on the 300.

Have you tried turning the crankshaft by hand? Use a socket and breaker bar at the front of the engine.

This will help determine if you've got an issue such as the flywheel rubbing somewhere, but with the starter out of the picture.

I still wonder if this could be an electrical issue, preventing the starter from applying maximum force to spin the flywheel and then kicking back.

well i may have fixed it. When it started binding again after spending half the day replacing the bellhousing and flywheel i just kind of threw up my hands and didnt want to deal with it. If i would of actually taken a minute to look at it i would have noticed that i didnt bolt down the starter well enough and i wouldnt had wasted everyones time! So it looks like the bellhousing being cracked was the issue

No waste of our time as everything posted may help others if the person does a search and comes across this thread.

Also thank you for posting the fix again will help someone doing a search and now know what the fix was. I have looked at some posts for an issue and there was never a "fix" at the end.

It was kinda bent where it holds the starter but i tried to reshape it back to its original shape best i can and it looks pretty close now. The starter and flywheel are grinding while trying to start the engine, its almost like it starts to turn a crank or two and then it tries to lock up and then the sudden stop causes the teeth to slip or something. We have also had issues with the distributor shearing pins, not sure if the two problems are related. We did drop the oil pan clean out all debris and clean the oil pump pick up tube out. There was a bunch of wood looking stuff in there (peices of the timimg gear?) That we suspected was getting stuck in the oil pump causing the pins to shear, but im no mechanic. We will try to start it with no spark to the plugs and see if that makes a difference and let you know. Sorry for the lengthy post and i appreciate any advice you guys have to offer

The timing gear has failed the stock 300 6 has a fiber timing gear the wood like stuff in the Oil pan are chunks of the cam timing gear. And yes the Oil pump has digested chunks of the timing gear causing it to lock up and sear the roll pin.

Before you do anything else you need to replace the timing gear. I do not think the 300 6 is an interference engine (others can comment on it) but if it is out as much as you say the valve timing is way out to lunch.

It has been a few days and so far it is still holding up fine. I think you are probably on to something about the fiber timing gear. When we started having issues with the dizzy pins shearing we heard about the fiber gear but we did not crack it open for a peek. I just bored it out and put in a solid pin to try to stay on the road, was this a bad move on my part? When i hook the timing light up i can tell its not firing consistently. I replaced the plugs, wires and dizzy and it hasn't improved, is this a symptom a bad timing gear?

Yes it is if the gear is shredded the timing will jump around a bit. Eventually the gear will shred completely leaving the engine non running. It looks like you replaced a lot of parts and did not fix the underlying problem a worn timing gear.
