Has anyone heard of flywheel problems with 09-10's. Talking to a person today with a 09 and he loves the truck, but has had numourous flywheels put in very few miles. I frequent this site and have never seen or heard of anyone replacing a flywheel. lets hear it if you have. To me sounds like a misdrilled started mounting pad and starter is misalighned.
Someone has a flywheel in a new f-150? How can I get a manual trans? I want one!
- Of course I'm being fecitious... What I am sure you meant to say was "flex plate", as flywheels are only on manual transmissions, which, sadly, are no longer offered in half tons...
I would have to agree with the assumption that something else is off... I don't know if there are shims on these starters (probably not) but if so, that is most likely the culprt, although something in the ignition switch could be causing the starter to not fully engage or dis-engage. Do you know if they have replaced the starter at all?

Steve, your rite it is a flex plate my bad. he was a person that did not really know what happened and called it the flywheel and just had to have them replaced, my take on it could have been cracked, teeth on ring gear stripped, who knows but he did say Ford has been replacing them under warrentee. I was just throwing this out there because usually if there is a problem it is posted on here very quickly. I do know years ago they used shims to get the rite mesh on the gears but I myself have not had a starter off any vehical for at least 15 years.

Reason: spelling
Ford has not put a shim on a starter in over 15 years. If the plate is being replaced because of worn out teeth, then they better for damn sure replace the starter also.
