Good evening from Gallup NM....
Much of the drive today was at 7,000' and above. The Jeep performed well for a normally aspirated engine. 3rd gear and sometimes 4th were about all I could do on level ground. Going downhill on 40, coming into and thru Albuquerque, I could hit fifth gear as long as I was at 60-65. Anything over that and the aero of the whole rig started working against it and it would force itself from 5th to 3rd... The trailer is a V-Nose which does help...
I am a couple hundred pounds over the towing limit, but that by itself should not cause a lot of heartburn.
At 8,000' I was in second gear and holding 50 MPH while climbing a relatively shallow incline.
The transmission is the A580 5 speed developed bt Benz as the W5A580 - a very stout trans from everything I've read. The trans temp today was between 160 and 175.. The 175 was with my foot in it in 3rd gear at 65.. Coolant temp went to 235 but not any higher. MPG average over the trip is at 10.2 right now..
