12' Ford Script - hole on back

Anyone know what that hole is for to he right of the Ford logo?
I've seen a few online with a lever hanging out so I'm assuming its for locking Or pushing out a stake or something.

There is an L shaped rod that slides into a hole in the rear stake..Holds the stake and tail gate from jumping out. The back of these trucks jump around quite a bit when unloaded and the tail rack could possibly come out.

When did Ford start adding the stake lock to the script beds? My '49 bed didn't have one on the original rear panel.

I don't know the year, Mark. Probably after a stake gate jumped out and went thru a windshield.

It looks like Doug's does not have it (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post16565592) nor does jwhorsefolks pictured in the same thread (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post16550075).
