I chose to forgo studs for the time being because my hope is that my oil cooler and EGR bulletproofing will stave off any stud related issues for a while. Probably foolish but heck, now that I've had the cab off it's not like I can't do it again. Plus, I've learned over the years that it's best to make as few changes as possible between tests to help narrow down problems that may occur. So to this end, the TTY bolts will remain.
One question, does the computer greatly retard the timing when the engine is not yet warm? Leaving the tire shop today I stepped on it and the truck didn't seem to be displaying 600pb ft of torque. Then later on the road it seemed to spool up a little more.
Was it cold when you left?
The PCM does hold things back a bit. I know that the trans
will also shift differently when the fluid is cold until it warms up.
Well my particular trans is my left leg and my right arm so I don't think it's shift point related as such. Need more testing. I've hardly had it out of the neighborhood yet.
Okay so I've done some more test driving and it's very fun to Drive! It's challenging to drive smoothly due to the manual trans and the nature of diesel however it does have a peculiar power curve that I'm not certain is the norm.
I feel like it sounds very healthy. Idles right 750 all the time. Throttle sounds snappy and you can hear turbo doing its thing.
However, on the road it seems to be pretty much a dog and has zero throttle response until it hits about 1800. It spools up and the turbo can be heard down lower, but it's just not grunting at all.
Today I blew a hose off also it was the rubber clamp directly the turbo as it outputs to intercooler. Might have been a bad tighting job by me. I was able to reattach it at the roadside with my leatherman tool. Are you supposed to bottom out that spring thing on the clamp?
So, I'm wondering if this is inherent 6.0 behavior? This is the only 6,0 I've driven so I don't have a lot of base on these, but in my experience diesels are great for the low end grunt and an empty truck with a 6 liter should not require Reving to get around town.
The 6.0 doesn't have a whole lot of low end grunt to begin with however what your discribing does not sound normal. Mine will grunt a little but it needs boost to make power, withtout boost it will not get out of its own way. If you do have a problem its probably MAP EBP boost related. Just for the record am driving an automatic so....
