Okay you asked for it! Here's the new used engine in place. I'm still amazed how easy it slid into its home. Cab off engine work does have its advantages. My other truck is a NPR Isuzu and that's always been a bonus with those.
Placed turbo in its spot and I'm waiting to continue install for my oil relocation parts to get here. Then again, maybe I should press on because the oil remote parts might be able to install with cab on? May even be necessary for the install of those as the cooler is going to be part of the body.
Also, removed this thing. Not sure how the fuel filter (is this a fuel bowl?) will exist with the new remote oil head installed as the fuel thingy seems to be cast as part of the old head.
-Decent tailgate
-New front seats, cloth or leather. Or a suggestion for nice covers for my vinyl jobs
-wheels. I like the ones with holes, must be be 8x170 AND for 99-04 super duty. Later wheels won't who due to offsets. I think 34-35" will be the end game size, but I need to decide between 16, 16.5, 17 or 18" rims. Too many choices. I'd probably like the ones with the most tire options.
-2.5" front lift springs
Yeah I was thinking that also. I see on Amazon they have ZONE f0202 springs for about 95$ ea delivered. Says good for plows etc. they claim 2.5" on trucks and 4" on excursions.
Anyone familiar with this spring? Seems like a decent design. Pair of these plus a few spacers to drop my trac bar bracket and I should be leveled out pretty well.
Having good helpers is crucial to forward progress. She likes driving the fork lift, but I made a mistake in sliming the steering wheel with greasy hands prior to her jumping on it so now I've mad enough it harder on myself to acquire the help I need. Oh well.
New-old oil pan installed. Was able to leave tranny bolted on and just tilt engine up so it only set me back a couple hours and I was also able to clean it out real well so that's a semi bonus.
It's possible I may have ruined a 80$ e series van remote oil filter head with welding. After seeing a lot of pictures of people welding up their factory oil filter housings with good success so I figured okay cool I can well up the ports on the e series head and make it a cleaner route for the AN hoses. Well, aluminum castings come in two kinds, good and ****ty. The van piece is definitely the latter so I may not be able to weld it up as well as I'd like. We will see when I get my AN fittings in.
Coolant filter went in last night. Funny, I bought it on eBay and paid $58 and it looks very suspiciously like another brands kit that cost a lot more.
Good news this morning. I decided, due to limited patience, that I couldn't wait for my parts to arrive for final oil cooler mods to be completed so I returned factory oil filter head to the engine for a test fire. Cranked it for 5 seconds and it roared to life! Purred like it should, sounds great! No CELs despite having egr blocked, that may show up later of course. Abs light lit could be from not bleeding it down yet.
