Well this is interesting. Preparing for engine removal and I was getting tired of the continual oil bleeding from engine so decided to drain it. After 4 oil pans worth I was making a mess and ended up removing over 5 gallons of oil from the engine. About 21 quarts all together. Plus maybe a quart that leaked out on its own. The oil didn't appear to have any coolant in it, and it didn't smell of fuel at all.
I'm pretty sure the dipstick was reading that it was filled correct amount.
Can someone verify the oil capacity of this engine? Could the dipstick be too short? I'm wondering if this could have been causing some of the issues they were experiencing with the engine.
I got 14 or so. Some go to halfway on the dipstick indicator so it's easier to tell if you're making oil. You definitely had too much oil if no coolant or fuel in it.
It came to me non running, and no history. I'm putting the pieces together so I have no idea how it got overfilled. I don't believe it's fuel though because I couldn't smell a hint of diesel on it, and no coolant either. Black as night. The weird thing is, regardless of what the fluid was, it read correctly on the dipstick. So, could it have a dipstick issue? Bit confusing. It looked like oem stick might look.

I wonder if it's the wrong dipstick.
Is it a T handle or ring pull dipstick?
