uncomfortable seats

Just joined the forum tho I have been reading your posts for some time. Others have experienced discomfort with the bucket seats in the 04-08 F150's, and have found some relief by extra foam, etc. My Son recently purchased an 06 Crew Cab with bucket seats, and it "pinches" his legs so bad that he can't drive it. He has about a 45 min. commute to work each morning. He is sort of a big guy, about 6-3 and 230 pounds. The truck has cloth seats, and he prefers leather, what with a couple little kids, and all the mess they make.

My question is: are later model seats shaped more comfortably and will they fit? Such as, 2010 and later Laramie seats? I bought some automotive foam, and am trying to shape it to fit under the cloth seat covers, but even if that works, I still have cloth seats.

Truck is really clean, and only has 85K miles, a little "ticking", but runs really strong. first Ford in a long time, pretty much always GM. This truck is otherwise really nice, just the seat issue, and not sure what to do about that... Thanks for any help and suggestions

No smart comments about test driving a vehicle from me; I bought a brand new 2000 Grand Cherokee that suited me fine for up to an hour and a half, after that it was very uncomfortable due to lack of footroom.

I don't know about any of the newer model seats fitting; but what about putting one of the bench types in place of the buckets? I have a '06 XL with the vinyl bench, it is comfortable for me and I am 6'1" 250.

Thanks Robert. You are right about the test ride, which he did, for about 10 miles, and reported: "really great torque, rides really smooth, even on rough roads, and at highway speed, hey look...new shocks, and the tranny fluid doesn't stink. Really clean inside"; but after a week of riding back and forth to work: "hey, these seats really make my butt hurt".

Seems like most of the problem is that the "absolute" bottom of the seat is about 12", and then the bolsters start up the sides, maybe a little too sharply, and tend to start to "pinch" your legs. Maybe some foam right in the bottom will help.

Really curious to know if the bottom seat dimensions were changed after 08 on the bucket seats in the F150 Crew Cab. I know this seems trivial considering some of the other posts about broken spark plugs, rattling phasers, etc. but still, sure someone has had a similar experience.

I have never tried to install 2012 seats in a 2006 F150, but I have to believe it is a somewhat simple process. The trucks are not that much different in body design. Most of the body floors are drilled and tapped ( or at least setup) for a variety of seats and you could buy a bench or buckets and console.... so several sets of holes are available.

How about putting a 2 inch rigid foam pad ABOVE the seat cushion so that the weight does not let you settle down into the bolsters ?

Thanks for all the input. Think he has decided to go ahead and sell the truck. We have tried foam, rolled up towels, and all kinds of seat settings, and his lower back hurts and his feet are gong numb by the time he gets to work. It's a really nice truck with only 85K miles, runs and drives great, plenty of room with the crew cab. I have been looking for seats to swap out, but guess he has decided not to try and force it, rather start looking for another Sierra or Silverado

I think I would have found someone to switch out your buckets for their bench... Would think you would get quite a few takers on that deal........... anyway, good luck !
