Transmission temperature sensor
Ok a while back, my temp gauge for the transmission pegged and I got a warning to check my transmission Temps. I replaced the sensor, put all new fluid and filters (all Motorcraft). Problem solved, or so I thought. A month or so later, it started up again. Flashing tow/haul light, erratic shifting, refusing to go into overdrive periodically. So I repeated the service thinking maybe I got a bum sensor. Problem solved, or so I thought. I made it about 3 miles before the same symptoms started back up.
Anyone have a clue as to what could be causing this?

Before you buy more parts that may not fix the problem, getting a scanner would probably be the best thing to spend money on.

That problem can be caused by a bad sensor OR a problem in the wiring between the PCM and the sensor.

What scanner do you recommend? I'm really looking to fix this over the weekend so hopefully it's something I can get locally

Thanks I'll take a look at wiring when I get home and see if I notice anything

Like Mark said above, you better have a good look at the harness. Alot of times the sensor is fine but the harness was bad.

Are you referring to the external harness, or the 2 wires inside the transmission?

I'm going to wager I didn't get 2 bad sensors in a row. Buthe it does sound a bit like my luck.
